Well, he IS right AND wrong, depending on how you look at it. Without knowing about about the concept of a God you couldn't be an atheist since atheism usually includes a conscious decision/view based on experience and philosophy. On the other hand, since that's rather moot, humans are born as atheists and then converted by their parents, school, fanatical religious "friends" and preachers etc..

There rarely are any freethinkers out there or atheists who aren't brainwashed by philosophers out there who put ideas in their heads. It's a sad world where people are persuaded by 'freethinkers' into hating on religion and viceversa. Anarchists are the same.
Believe in what you want to believe but the moment you start lecturing people with what YOU, yourself, believe is right, you're not giving them freedom, you're simply forcing shit onto them. And it gets worse when you belittle them because they choose not to follow your thought.
It's a mans choice to believe or not to believe. No one is wrong. Only wrong people are those who do it for the wrong reasons thinking they're right reasons simply because someone else says it is so.
It's argh. ARGH. ARGH. ARGH.
Free will and free thought are gone these days. 
My kids will have a choice into what to believe. I will not tell them religion is wrong. Or Atheism is wrong. Or following the state is wrong. Or being an anarchist is wrong. Life is meant to be lived and enjoyed not enclosed and shallow.

Atheists seldom try to force their beliefs onto people unlike religious nutcases. However, they are very good at being open for discussing the reason why they don't belive there is a good and they try to prove using scientific methods why they are right rather than just claim that the reason there is a god is because the bible says so.
I think people already know about this one - but I suggest you check out The Atheist Experience on youtube. Love it!

waldo, your argument is bullshit. There is no organized atheism that is taught in schools to kids and no atheist philosophers go around and demand anything from anyone. Atheists usually either come from atheist families Or have a very hard time growing up in religious families and often times losing their family in the process.
Especially fucked up and dishonestly assholish is your comparison of atheists to religious FANATICS. Have you taken a look at what religious fanatics do on a daily basis? Have you seen the shooting-spree fotos from the christian church massacre in iraq? Have you forgotten the deaths of 9/11? How can you compare the daily atrocities of religious fanatics to the mild disagreement you ll find with even the most "fanatic" atheists? Go see a Hitchens debate and see how fanatic he is. Go on, call atheists militant even and see me heavily frown in anger on it, while some religious zealot will kill his brother or sister over a religious commandment somewhere on this planet. Your argument is bullshit. Yes, free thought seems dead, but only in your arguments...

Atheism rarely comes from a free mind nowadays. I know what you're trying to say.
I didn't call atheists fanatics, only religious fanatics. and it's no a comparison to the extreme. Violent crimes from religion are fowl and disgusting and are held in the extremist level of religion. Not fanatic. Fanatic is the god is better than you, praise the lord, motha fucka you go to hell if you don't do what god says and god says i need to sodomize your ass. It gets worse but not on the vile level.
The soft spoken, delicate, awesome, educated atheists are the worst kind and the best kind. They make their points well and know what should be said. They're great to listen to. They're smart and educated and you have kids who listen to them who then follow them for how smart they are. Charisma and atheism are argh.
I'm an atheist. I agree with the big names out there. But then you have these egotistical atheists (fanatics) who spread the word of atheism and argue with you far worse than the educated kind. And that's sad.
Being religious is a bad bad bad thing these days mainly because of the fanatic atheists who think they're better than eve... THEY'RE LIKE JEHOVAS. ARROGANT ATHEISTS = JEHOVAS. There. I said it.

Personally I'm definitely not a religious person, but I don't dismiss the possibility of a higher being (in one way or another), although I would require a scientific explanation in order to believe in it. I'm guessing that makes me an atheist as well.

seriously, i have never encountered a "holier-than-though" atheist (apart from maybe one idiot on youtube). And they dont go from door to door like the witnesses or preach on the street because they dont have any snakeoil to sell (apart from maybe some youtube atheists who seem to be in it for the ad-revenue).
I stopped raging and yes, your comparison can be read both ways, but still, calling atheists as brainwashed as religious people is a non-starter.

Only time will tell. Soon it'll be as pop-culture as scientology and as profitable. 
Also there are a tonne of holier-than-thou atheists out there. It's sickening.
