I think the point is he has accepted that he is working with wild animals where that is factor, and in every video I see he's trying to stress to people that if he dies, just let it be what it is.

Hmm I am more interested how he starts the bond of trust and friendship with those animals. Doing it with wild dogs is not that hard but with lions. O.O

He plays with them from the time they are cubs. By the time they're grown they see him as a fellow lion.

It had to start somewhere and he uses captivated creatures..I'd have to guess if he started with an adult animal he sat outside the cage for hours, just leting the animal get used to his presence.. Then introduced food at the other side of the cage when he moved inside and sat.
