GI have a special relationship with Valve, they had the exclusive previews for Portal 2 and Dota 2 and the exclusive interview with Gabe revealing that there are 3 surprises.
The magazine is owned by GameStop and when Portal 2 was revealed GameStop was the only site that had the correct price, date (for the time), plot description and the co-op reveal.
They also published on their rumor column in early 2010, that sources suggested that Ep3 wouldn't be released in 2010 (that is correct) and that it's uncertain in what form the game will be released.. episodic or a full (HL3) release.
And now they "predict" that a 2011 HL3 reveal will be one of those surprises and it looks great.

Great news then. We can trust Game Informer more than other idiots, that's for sure. But there's bad news too, from what I see there.

Not that I didn't see this coming, but that's something really bad, if even the Diablo series is going on derpboxes.

Check the diablo 3 thread I posted about blizzard's job announcement. They said they're hiring people to make a proof of concept diablo 3 console port to evaluate if it makes sense releasing such a product. They said it won't affect the pc game in any way as if they make a console version it will be released after the pc version and it will have somewhat different, adapted, gameplay. Also it's not like diablo 1 wasn't released for psx and Starcraft for n64.

Well...who cares about Diablo in a HL thread?
shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

valve and release dates it is like dogs who climb on tree's and cats who runin after dogs, what i am traying to say here is that: when they say release date it is never what they say (usualy 2-3 years later as mansion above), but i will be more than happy to play hl3 this year

gabe said we would be surprised in one of those interviews, and he previously said the whole episode thing was a bad idea because people were expecting episode to come, like, every month, but valve don't like unfinished games, so it takes much more time
i'm not surprised they drop the idea and go straight to HL3
the even oranger box, portal 2, HL3, dota2, TF2 included
teamfortress2 goes free (valve makes more money with mann co store)

First of all game informer only suggested that it will be revealed in 2011. They didn't say a thing about a release date. And if I had to guess I'd say we won't play it until 2012.
Secondly left 4 dead was released in time when valve bought the ip from turtle rock, left 4 day 2 was released exactly a year later with even more content, tf2 is like.. 3 times bigger than when it was released 3 years ago, they released alien swarm out of the blue, portal 2 will miss its original release date only by 6 months or so.. But it makes sense since it's their first game on ps3, they're also porting steam on ps3 after the port to Mac, they also developed a OpenGL branch of their engine and they released all(?) their games for Mac os.. Dota 2 is scheduled for 2011 too. They released 2 dlc for l4d2 and a new "mutation" i believe, every week. They even had the huge and elaborate portal 2 arg. Oh and what about the tf2 videos and the HUGE l4d2 comic?
These days they're hyper active, the only game that's been delayed for long is ep3 and actually they haven't officially announced they are working on it, and now game informer suggests that it's no longer a mere episode but a fully fledged standalone game.
