To show how much the human body deteriorates by drug abuse and to increase the viewer's disgust.

Catholic tattoos make me doubt this is russia. Rather poland or some other catholic east european country.

Today I didn't even need to use my AK. I gotta say it was a good day. (c) - Ice Cube

For a second there I had no idea what you're talking about. Then I scrolled up to the OP. Laughing
(Slightly derailed topic)
Indeed it's wrong. I wonder what country they're from - probably England.

How probably England?? What a stupid thing to say.

If those are catholic tatoos I'd say it's Scotland, probably Glasgow which has a notorious heroin addict problem.

I'm sorry It's just I always imagine England as the place that breeds heroin addicts.

Im not aware of England having that much of a problem with heroin addicts tbh. Scotland on the other hand...

How'd you determine they're catholic? If anything I'd say that confirms it's russian, since religious imagery is one of the most common themes of russian prison tattoos, and virgin Mary holding baby Jesus is one with a specific meaning - that the wearer has been a thief since they were very young.

You're right, but the depiction is purely western/catholic style, not orthodox.

Yeah but I wouldn't say russian prison tattooists are necessarily the experts when it comes to the finer details of religious imagery. Very Happy

Could be that it was just copied from some magazine picture or whatever; it's still imo a strong hint that they're russian.

the backdrop gives more of a yes but russians are actually quite familiar with the imagery even if they're not totally into religion. i mean there's churches and icons on every corner around here, you just can't confuse it with anything else.

anyway I've asked our russian colleagues here to check out the pics and try to find some story behind it.

Googling the name "A. Rakhimbaev" brought more. Kinda hard for me sifting through Cyrillic script. A. Rakhimbaev is a photographer.

Seems the father and son on the picture are from Uzbekistan.
