Should seeding copyright material, and 'illegal' file sharing be considered an illegal act?

Here's why I think it shouldn't:

1, Everyone in society, rich or poor should have the opportunity to be 'media rich'. Why should this only be a right for those that can afford it.

2, The law regarding this issue has proven over the last ten years to be almost unenforceable. Seeders have little fear of being caught, since the technology they use makes them hard to trace and find.

3, The commonly held view, at least it seems to many of my friends and colleagues is that sharing files, seems quite a natural 'philanthropic' thing to do.

4, Sharing media, or an artist's work, increases it's availability, it's a great thing for culture.

5, We live in a time when we have far reaching liberal attitudes, which should be reflected in our law making.

Ultimately I feel that this is an issue that will rage on, and be a problem that government can't solve.

The Internet has offered up a fresh opportunity for rights holders and artists to find new ways of commercially exploiting their work in our modern consumer society. It seems that those that cry hardest over this issue are those that refuse to modernise and move with the times.

1. Content creators should live of welfare.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
