Just wanted to ask if anyone might share the same "issue" with me here. Past 10 years I have been working on my office/man cave setup as a hobby and I'm pretty sure it went through 20+ major overhauls so far. On the side from room itself I spend a lot of money and time filling it up with latest technology. Most of my friends agree that I am lucky my wife allows me to have one of these. Now not that i am complaining or anything, but the problem is I see no end to development. I already have ideas for the future of custom led lighting in the walls and some new paint design ideas in the works and both my friends and my wife agree that i should stop and ask me why do i continue to change it? why can't i leave it the way it is and just enjoy ... but i can't! - I love working on it and I love getting new additions for my computers and audio/video eq ... it is the single most entertaining thing for me to do at home in my free time and I don't think it will ever change. I started in my 20's with mostly crazy mess of wires and electronics and now I am getting into more sophisticated and polished look which requires more work and innovation to make possible. Some people spend time in a garage fixing up cars or whatever but I think this is ultimately my "car" and I dont ever want to stop. By the time im 40 I want that room to be a hidef 3d portal to another world hahaha j/k (no, not really kidding)

Anyone else have a similar exp? Also, are there any goof forums where people share ideas about innovation of the "man cave" ?

I've seen your "cave" and I think it's awesome Smile

There's nothing wrong in having a hobby, especially if it's something that keeps your immagination trained and entertains you at the same without interfering with your wife's needs...so keep it up! Razz

@bxrdj: Are there reasons your wife disapproves of your hobby? Like it consumes all of your time and money? Kinda obsessive activity?

As long as it doesn't drive a wedge between you and your wife (due to financial reasons) i'd say its fine. If you are spending your whole paycheck on this crap though you prolly have a bit of a problem.

Heh, easy to guess who's the man in those households. Laughing

It's your money tho, you can do whatever you want with it - let no one tell you otherwise.

If you feel it affects your life negatively in any way (or affect your family negatively) you may have a problem. Otherwise NO.

I think it's great you have a hobby you're so enamoured with, as long as you're financially secure otherwise then I don't see a problem. Like people have already mentioned, if you can't spend your money on things you enjoy, what's the point.

Personally I spend a lot of my disposable income on private lab experiments. I've sunk thousands into my current project, who knows if I'll even get usable results, but I love the process and the potential is exponential. Smile

Thanks for the replies guys, generally i don't get myself in trouble with overspending, I just think that generally both my friends and wife think that i should just leave it alone as it already looks great, but they don't understand that i don't want it to be over and always will find a reason to innovate. That room is easily compared to my PC desktop, it always changes, I dont understand why everyone has to give me a hard time for doing something I enjoy so much. Maybe they are just jelaous and wish they had hobbies they are so involved in haha.

boysetsfire - ill post some new pics later im adding some stuff over the weekend

Simply explain to them that this is your hobby, not a project.
