Ever since coolface I now have no way of communicating on other social media if it doesn't have a coolface smiley.

I feel limited in my social interactions now because of it! FUCK YOU COOLFACEEEEEEE

It's quite easy to overcome this juvenile smiley-world that we live in. In fact, i don't use any emoticons while IM'ing or sending e-mails. Believe me, once you get over it all the messages you want to transmit will be much more better readable. And no, emoticons don't forward any emotions. Only young padawans think that - but who of the grown-ups chat with them, right?

Hmm If I send an e-mail to a friend or to family, those people know me and if I ridicule or if I am being sarcastic they do understand that. On a board like this one when you have a large audience that doesn't understand you, I think it's better to use an emoticon to make sure the message gets interpreted in the right way. So using emoticons isn't necessarily childish (although kids can abuse it a lot) but about compensating for the fact that people can't pick up your body language in a text based medium.

Yeah, i may have exaggerated before. I mostly meant overuse of smileys, a lot. I have these people in MSN and they can "light me up" with anger from time to time.
