|
 |
In future can we have a much longer, or a follow up PM with the reason why? All it said was "INSULT" and to my knowledge on that day ALL I had used ( this is why im asking incase I dont recall ) was the word DERP...
Now following that ban I peruse the rest of the chat through the day and see people being called DERPS, IDIOTS, and god knows what AND its not only from general forum members..
Now please can a mod show me the post or whatever way you wish for what constituted an INSULT.
cheers..

I second this request. There's obviously sod all we can about being banned, there's no way of appealing and nothing you can do after the fact, but it would be nice to know exactly WHY with a proper reason and even a link to the offending post which caused said ban.

The "real" truth can never be an insult but why is it if you call a thief a thief, this person reacts offended?

Im truly harmless - but it seems the mod's get a bit excited of a possible ban impending and slip on the keyboard ban hammer button way to early at times

I had a situation on WBB recently where one member was perm banned and some were curious why... Anywho that almost resulted in more ppl banned and an explanation: forums are not democracy. There are rules and they are meant to be followed. Mods have a reason for banning, and they know what it is (You and others don't need to know). If admin and other mods thinks that some person was wrongfully banned they'll sort it out.
Sure it might be cool to find their explanation, but that just takes time So I doubt you'll ever get the real reasons...

lol, well its a bit odd I think end of day, I know that dont amount to anything its the rules and all that, but they are very should I dare say "Bendable" when it seems fit to do so.. Just as bad has been said today in the cod forums for sure - and yet nobody gets the hammer, and I guess nobody put in a complaint for it to come out of its nice leather holder..
Would one get temp banned for reporting more than 10 posts a day I wonder.. be interesting experiment see if I report all the insulting shit I do see aching to my temp ban assumption level earlier, if they also will get told to fuck off for 24hrs
we will see..

If you feel so emotional about someone insulting and you don't see a result after reporting, just PM a mod or Rinze and point them to the post in question.

well if you follow the proper channels, thats following the rules isnt it lol, so I expect now to see a new rule put in place called "making a nuisance of yourself by reporting too often"
I can see it now can you ?

Hmm since the mods here don't read all the channels (threads) they rely on reporting, I think they should rephrase the rules like this:
- No racism (N-word is def. racist word)
- No gender discrimination (well that is bit weird since this is a community mainly consisting out of men)
- No nationality bashing
- No gay-bashing
- No asking for torrents or usenet releases

it needs to be put "in any form" so there is no way to not understand it or interpret it wrong
And regarding your first one there, if that was the case without the "in any shape or form addition" Epsilon would have to ban himself right now

afaik the offending post was this:
http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1351672#1351672
you started it with a weak insult (i.e. wally) and then proposed that that "wally" should suck your cock. That cock didnt go down well with the crowd (report => ban).
you also had been warned by me a day or two before about name-calling in the CoD thread, where other mods might have banned you already.
Personal attacks or insults are never a good idea, because they show that you ve either given up to argue a point, or that you re just trolling / flamebaiting. Thats why personal insults (like derp, idiot, imbicile, etc.) usually end in a ban, if reported.
EDIT: also, usually mods give a reason in the offending post itself, so a little searching might help to find the reason for a ban.

yeah again "I" understand, but if anyone bothered to carry on reading down the posts you would see and be able to judge quite well that the post was not an insult, its just seen as an insult because it said "you can suck my cock" its really light really, its no diff as you would walk past your black friends and say whats up my fucking N*****! when most take that if you converse with them regular or friends take that on the shoulder..
It dont mean its totally right, but it dont mean anything else either unless your using it in a hostile way. Its all about how you perceive the way its been put across, if you get that wrong then your wrong, there is no well its just rude or insulting, you can not really make that much of an accurate judge with text on a forum sorry
And if the laughter part at end was seen as laughing at the poster about the post already been posted, wrong again, its about the laughter at the initial funny about the guy opening the box etc..
But thanks for the clarity on the insults like derp. idiot. imbecile, etc usually end in a ban if reported part though, I mean I would like more "clarity" on the "usually" part though lutz
I still like to know which ive mentioned loads of times now around, If I had reported Horror ( great mod btw voted for him etc in a poll here ) for calling out a member on his opinion of a game and he didnt agree, so called him a idiot, would he get the same treatment?

well, there are no clear guidelines set for moderating apart from the forum rules and it heavily depends on different conditions like:
how much time mods have to check everything (days with many complaints and / or complex issues to be judged)
which mod is looking at it (sometimes we have different views on what is ban-worthy or only a joke)
what the report says (if somebody feels offended even by a small personal insult, he is still offended)
if it is a regular or not (meaning: a low-post member is more likely to be perm-banned than temp for bullshit)
and so on and so forth
as i stated in another thread about the moderating system and us mods: we are not perfect, but we try to make this place a better place for the community. Things violating community spirit often lead to moderation / bans.
Things that are anti-community are things that try to set people apart => personal insults, flamebaiting, racism, closed-mindedness and similar. So keep that in mind when posting.
Maybe as a take home message for all reading this:
It is a good rule of thumb to NOT throw about personal insults in high-volume, high-bullshit threads of highly anticipated games BECAUSE they grow like crazy and overwhelm the moderating staff even if all goes well. Chances are that you ll get temp banned for infractions there, even if they are minor, just because we dont have time or willingness to take even more bullshit in those...
And for the rare case that a mod is breaking rules, try to reason with us via pm. And, if that doesnt work, you can always take it up with Rinze (he is a nice guy, but be warned though: he has low patience for bullshitting, so if it results in a ban for you, its not my fault)
EDIT: maybe as an addendum: the people here are hailing from all over the world and the scene has been very accommodating about internationality early on. This could be felt on nforce back in the day as well. But with the internet becoming more common a lot of bad habits have snuck in, like for example: people are less accepting of others, judge the world and how they communicate with it by their own standards instead of thinking of the way others might judge it. This can also be felt here on the hump (racism, disrespect for other people's backgrounds / cultures, etc.). And that s making it harder to keep this ship afloat. A little more hippie-love would be greatly appreciated. Complementary hugs can be had at my place =D

people that get told to just "drop it" tend to be the ones liken to sheep. That are not allowed to ask deeper questions, are not allowed for a proper answer and are seen as just irritating and annoying because you want to know.. well actually expected to hear the "drop it" from a mod sooner really but maybe not all is bad and I am allowed to seek what I want to know.
It may go around in circles and the thread could end up 1000 pages long but still
btw what are illumination ppl . Did you mean by the chosen few

it s always ok to ask questions and have a reasonable debate about things. But the "why was i banned" threads often have a lot of stuff in it, that were reasons for the ban in the first place, e.g.: fingerpointing, insults, unwillingness to see the other side's point of view etc.
So far, you re doing fine here, imho
EDIT: if you want to have an example of how not to do it, think of the twobells desaster (see the "the next sinner i name" thread on page 2 here in site feedback)
