Trying my hand at putting together a pc for kids but ran into problem

getting no display what so ever,i thought graphics card but tried 2 diff ones

switch it on get no bleeps nothing

few specs

Asus M4A87TD/USB3 870
AMD Phenom II X2 560 Black Edition 3.3GHz Socket AM3
2gig ddr3 1333

tried both cards
Ati sapphire x1950 pro
7300GT PCI-E 256mb

i know the cards suck but was trying these 2 just to get the system up and running

and help appreciated Very Happy

Check if the cards sit tight in the PCI-E. And I mean REALLY TIGHT!

dunno tried 3 diff cards and same thing i know the cards are pretty old but they should still show something

can any pci-e card be fitted into a pci-ex16 slot?

Connected all the power properly? Not sure if AM3 needs 2 plugs as well.
Does the PSU fan start spinning?
Same, but for CPU?
Do the HDD's spin up?

A lot of the time when I've had problems with motherboards and gfx card is.
They just do not work together even if the manual says so.
I've had this problem a lot of times over the years.


Ryzen 5 3600 cpu@3.60 Mhz.
hyper x 32 gb ddr 4 memory.
Msi Carbon gaming pro ac motherboard.
Evga 600 psu.
Msi Armour rx 8 gb 5700 Graphic card.
Ps4 Standard 500gb.
Lg 4k 42 inch tv.
Oculus Quest 2.

hmmm well dont no what i did but removed motherboard and installed again and it looks like a loose connection somewhere screen is popping up and the dissapearing so just got to narrow it down now

faulty memory could cause no video to show up on the monitor as well, but if it's popping up momentary now then might not be that. Would by any chance be the connection on your monitor?

im not convinced the cards are sitting right dunno if its down to the age of the video cards versus the board being new but for now its working will get better idea when i buy new video card these ones are 2 yrs old

age has nothing to do with how video cards perform, unless they were raped by high temps

I can top that.

ATI Mach64 + Voodoo 1 still running in the P3-866 I built for my grandfather 3 years ago Very Happy

Also the best videocard I ever bought, that Voodoo. God I miss Glide to make my games run twice as good as on much more expensive systems Sad

I remember the first time that I spent over $500 on a video card. Damn Hercules 3D Prophet II Ultra...I also remember buying my first HDD, 5.7GB for $329. Had to make it 3 different partitions. Funny that now we download that much in less than an hour (for some a lot less Cool )
