It didnt totally bomb, but it did bomb. They really arent selling much compared to past systems, and I love how IGN really tries hard to hide from this fact. (If you havent noticed allready IGN is biased towards the PSP, and its apparent in the DS section of their site) In chicago the things are still in pletiful supply. I can walk into any ebgames/gamestop/etc right now and pick one up. When the GBA came out, or when the DS came out, if you werent on the pre-order list, you were fucked for at least a month.

I love how when a company releases a fucking portable video player, mp3 player, and PS2 in this form factor, and makes the price tag a fraction of the former, the yokels scream, bitch, and moan that it's too much. When Nintendo releases something that can't do 2 of the 3 and does such a shitty job at the 3rd that it's an eyesore, people jump all over it. All that this shows is the power of human stupidity, and I'm afraid that it will not stop here. Every fucking company that releases a truly good product will bomb, whereas the company that releases a piece of shit for $100 less, will succeed because the average american mom would rather buy another monthly subscription to weight watchers and martha stewart's living than buy a decent handheld. There's really no place for gamers in this world.

As fast as they lower their price to sub 200 and stop forcing people buying the value pack filled with crap and start putting up more ads then they might get sales as in Japan. Dont forget Sony had a million PSPs for launch.
For Japan
PlayStation Portable: 43,644 (Annual: 580,120)
PlayStation 2: 40,270 (Annual: 602,316)
Nintendo DS: 22,446 (Annual: 429,545)
Game Boy Advance SP: 11,013 (Annual: 197,776)
GameCube: 3,357 (Annual: 70,016)
Game Boy Advance: 477 (Annual: 6,253)
Xbox: 345 (Annual: 4,606)

The thing is I can't afford a PDA and yes those bastards Licensed the GTA series long time ago and by god I hate them for that. But anyway to get a game like GTA3 and GTA Vice City is astonishing.

a PDA = about the same price as a PSP. if you can afford one you can afford the other. just depends on how good you want the PSP, and dont forget all the extra stuff a pda can do.

When a portable gaming system is as much as a console system, thats when it crosses the line. Plus, I wouldnt call the PSP games that great anyways, just because they have better graphics doesnt mean they are good games. And I am not a complete fucking moron, I own about 30 game systems not including doubles, and this includes the PSP, I am a gamer, I know whats what.

You miss the point. I was discussing the PsP as a platform, not it's launch titles. The fact that Ridge Racers is getting better reviews than anal sex notwithstanding, the PsP is still one fucking hell of a platform. I believe they've done what two seperate markets have been striving to do, right, in one unit.
Look at it this way: most portable media players have a 3.5" screen (most likely it's a PDA screen, meaning that it's tilted the wrong way in the first place and it's already an eyesore to watch anything on it. They compensate for this with the ability to play cell phone games on it and a 20GB hard drive. Newsflash, buddy: that 20g drive needs power. What's the point of having 30 movies on the thing if you can only watch 1-2 per charge?!
The PSP has a gorgeous 4" screen, which gives it quite a bit more real estate than the typical PDA/PMP screen, and the screen itself is much better besides.
Next up: games. While some developers choose to compensate for their system's tiny screen, shitty capabilities, and unpolished games with gizmo tactics ripped off from other platforms, tactics that don't work all that well in the first place, the PsP gives you the power of a traditional console, while retaining the portable form factor.
Given the fact that it is better at what it does than a $400 system and a $150 system combined, it's $250 price tag seems relatively meager.
The only suggestion I have for Sony, and this has been said before, is stop pushing your damn value pack. Nobody needs the case. Instead of a $150 unit and a $250 value pack, give us a $200 pack that includes 3 things:
- A PsP
- a remote
- a charger
the memory card is worthless @32mb anyway, and pushing MCDuo overstock on PsP users is pretty pointless. I'd rather spend the leftover $50 to buy a decent memory card, spend $20 for a logitech hard case, and come out with a better pack than Sony's for only $20 more.

Well, I have to agree. The PSP can do alot. But I think what most gamers are complaining about is that they dont feel as if they need all that hardware that comes with it, and that the launch titles arent good. You cant say the PSP Launch Titles are that bad though, they scored much higher than the DS launch titles. Look at Lumines and Whipeout Pure. I would say Metal Gear Ac!d, but Metal Gear Ac!d is a card game. Its still not half bad and the story itself makes you want to play it. Its basically a strategy game.
Second off... sure the launch titles might not be the greatest. But it still leaves room for better titles in the future. I mean the DS has been out for awhile now.
Everyone has their own opinions. I personally hate handhelds unless a good exclusive comes out on them like Zelda Minis Cap for GBA. But see if Microsoft where to make a handheld, all the XBox fanboys would be all over it. Who knows what kind of technology they would use. But I do know this... I stick to the main systems. PC and PS2 than finally XBox. I dislike the GameCube though... and I cant wait for Resident Evil 4 to come out on PS2. But hey, there are probably some people here who like the GameCube.

By the way... I have to ask this. Where do you all see the GameCube standing? I barely see much talk of it on NForce and since LoZ is coming out... I'm wondeirng where people think the standing point of GC is now as opposed to PS2/XBox. I dont want this to turn into a Console wars; so I'm talking about game titles.

i think the gc has some really good games on and some of the most fun. but i hardly play on my consoles and it just sits there collecting dust. i aint had it chipped but if i did i'd be having lots of fun with games like paper mario and mario party 6. the new LOZ and mario 128 look amazing though

Would most people rather have an XBox and a PS2 instead? Those games do look fun. Most people just seem confused on how to use a modded GC.
