it's a fucking challenge to find recent ones.
so hereby declare it a.. well anyway just post the list of RECENT movies that are actually decent and by that I mean:

-NO FUCKING PLASTIC CHICKS
-THE MOVIE DOESNT RELY SOLELY ON ACTION AND EXPLOSIONS
-ENGAGING STORY LINES (NO ONE MAN ARMY AGAINST EVIL SUPERPOWER)
-NO 90min SUMMER ACTION FLICK BLOCKBUSTER

well, let me start: Mr Nobody.
Mysterious skin

2000+
begin!

I'll add more later on.

Can you define "recent"? Personally the first thing that comes to mind, which isn't all of those listed above, would be District 9. Man that film was powerful.

Read the post well, I mean 2000 and on
my favourites are all 90's and earlier, plot mattered more than CGI and hot chicks back then.

Inception?

Memento

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

The Pianist

El laberinto del fauno (or Pan's Labirynth)

edit: Yes, District 9 was pretty good too.

I did read the post well, the numbers "2000+" on a separate line, with no correlation between anything else, didn't really indicate year Wink Still if you're going back a DECADE then there's a lot of great movies.

No. I thought PB was brilliant.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0183649/

And apparently so did several thousand others, since it got 7.2 on IMDb - which is notoriously hard to please Razz

PB is great when you watch it the first time, after that not so much IMO. Then you start to notice that the story is a bit thin, but it is really fun on the first time Smile

But how the fuck did Gothika make it on your list? Absolute mediocre movie, nothing special about it...

Also FM, maybe try this movie Cool Face
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1099212/

But some real advice:
They are not action movies, but I still loved both of them:
The last Kiss
Garden State

Both are with Zach Braff (from Scrubs), and IMO have really good scripts. I could really relate to those movies.

Moon was alright.
Coffee & Cigarettes
Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
There Will Be Blood
Son of Rambow
Oceans Eleven
Irreversible

There's a whole bunch of comedy/documentary/ww2 films that fit your description but I assume you're looking for reasonably srs films.

and Inglorious Basterds? really? only interesting bit is shoshanna and the german guy. the rest of it is brad pitt phoning it in, an overly drawn out bar scene and jew revenge at the end.

Grace was simply horrible. A lame excuse of a script with some weird scenes to compensate for the script. And the ending was like a typical teen horror flick..

Just saw The Man from Earth (2007) last night, and that it was a pretty interesting film.

And it certainly didn't have anything blockbuster, CGI or plastic chick in it.
