I find Civ 5 a bit meh... I play only on prince level, but find it quite pointless. You can take out 4-5 civilizations before first computer player has made second city. Guess it's different on more difficult levels, but I don't like playing on levels where computer gets tougher due to cheating/giving it bonuses.
I'm a huge fan of Civ 4 and I guess I was waiting for something more like Civ 4. Have to give this some balancing time and hope for some über mods by the fans.
Oh and I sign all the instability problems. Mine crashes quite regularly, around every 100 rounds (unpatched version). |
Try it on normal as most games should be played at.
I got hammered lol.
And let them expand at the start.

No issues here. Performance is fine, yes it does stutter a little when the computer is taking it's turn but I kinda expect that with 11 other AI civs. I can still move the camera around though. They don't really take too long either, I'd say the longest I've had was 20-30 seconds, I'm on a E8400 @ 3.8ghz.
The first game I played on their standard setup, Chieftain difficultly and a small map, I was the Iroquois and reached domination in the early 1900's after carpet bombing England and finishing it off with a nuke on London
Second game I bumped up the difficulty two notches, went with the Iroquois again as I wanted to try a new strategy, continents map with huge world size. I was able to fend off the Roman war machine in my forest homeland and got Persia and China to join the war and rid the world Caeser. Unfortunately, Japan, who I was also pretty friendly with after a very early game fight, settled a town right in my future territory and right on my border while I was busy with Rome. Shortly after Caeser was dead, Japan spotted my weakness and stuck the knife in my back, canceled all treaties we had, and sent an epic sized Samurai army to invade my forest. I was able to put up some resistance, but there were just too many and the bulk of my army was still on it's way back from Rome. Japan still would of horribly outnumbered me even if they were back, but I would of had a chance I think since it was my home turf and my guys were pretty deadly in the forest. That bastard will pay sooner or later, I won't forget.
Started my third game and bumped the difficulty back down one, so I'm one step above Chieftain (sorry, don't remember the names) after getting anhillated by Japan's massive army. This time around I'm going with the unlikely Songhai, again continents map, huge world. Think I'm around 1300AD at the moment and things are going pretty well. Expanding quite a bit more than the first two times around, but I find either works out well if you play the social tree right. I just finished kickin Arabia's ass and Ghandi was my right hand man and evening suggesting taking out the Ottoman's next, but turned soft after I turned down peace to Arabia when I had their capital under siege - no way I was gonna stop then. I start inland and have now expanded to the sea, but haven't built any ships to explore with yet, there's still quite a bit of unclaimed territory around me. I have a feeling though one of the unmet civ's elsewhere in the world is starting to get pretty big as I seen two other unknown civ's and a city-state taken out. I have a lot of cash rolling and think I'm leading in tech though so I'll be up for the fight. I can only hope it's Japan lol.

This is also true. But I was unable to load such save later. At least with LAN. Never actually tried internet game. |
When you want to load a multiplayer savegame just go the same way as hosting a game. In the setup screen of the new game you see the option load game.
Works like a charm |
Sure... but I only see there autosaves. None of manual saves I made. |
You get an autosave every 2 turns. Why bother?
Anyway... the saves should be there also when you manual save off course. Maybe you didnt look well. I thought there wass an option which let you switch between manual or autosave.

Shouldn't be a problem, it's just a bunch of utilities after all similar to say uploading the dedicated server software for a game.

Does it have the in-game editor?

Just wish the civs weren't so unbalanced. Bushido? I mean come on you just roll through enemy units. Is there an option to turn off civ bonuses? I don't remember seeing one but I haven't looked.

DirectX 11 features as a interview about what they do. |
Compute shaders work with DX10 hardware too. Explains why there is much less texture streaming in that mode, regardless of graphic card used.

No problem against AI, but against human opponent you get steamrolled far before you even get close to getting those two.

i have an issue: i pacted and gived -by error- a unliateral open borders agreement... the shit is that cannot be undone and is lasting forever. even after a war, when i pact peace, the open border commes again...
there are other bugs with diplomacy... nothing that a future patch can't solve...

Sucks, but Open Borders agreements do expire eventually.
