Somehow I did it. But if the solar system's planet alignment changes, then it will stop working again. Oh joy.
Fuck you ASUS, fuck you.

Blaming any motherboard manufacturer for not being able to do that is new
You sure it wasn't blocked at the left (rear) end in your case? Some cases have little holes where the end of the backplate of your card needs to go in

Fuck you ASUS, fuck you. | +1.
Fucking ASUS n00b's.
Decided to pull apart my HD4890 in order to clean it out. I've always had MEMIO temps ~15C above all other temps, but according to some people in the ATI forums that was relatively normal (10-15C, not 15-20C like my card).
So I'm removing the memory heatsink in the back of the card (an L shaped plate)and I notice that of the 3 plastic pins that hold the heatsink the 2 that are in both ends of the L are firmly in place, but the one in middle of the heatsink isn't even "open" (the 2 "wings" that should hold the pin in the other side of the surface are still stuck to the body... ).
So I fix that, clean up the whole card, change the thermal paste and pull it all together.
And now the MEMIO temp is following the temperature of the core by +10C, like it should.
Thanks a lot ASUS.
Should've waited for that HD4890 Vapor-X...
