All my friends literally tried to force me to create a facebook account (I'm practically the only one who doesn't have it) but since I've always offerered resistance, they created a fake account with my name and surname
and a horrible old pic of myself  FFUuu

Same boat as sabin, most are all friends in RL and it's hard to keep in conctact with everyone since everyone is getting married and all that shit. |

You guys so missed the point. Like someone said, its to connect with people you know. And the fact is, you do need to have friends and a social life to enjoy facebook, so maybe thats why you dont see a purpose other than advertising your achievements  ?
I use to for: commenting on pics that my friends post after a weekend, on the stupid shit we did. Track hot girls I notice in my town  . Look out for events and see whos coming. And occasionally if something good happens to me, I'd "advertise" that, because I'm happy and feel like sharing that. Also I like media posting, like the music or movies you like.
And about "actually talking to people in real life", I use it almost exclusively to talk to and comment on people I hang out in RL regularly. Although its nice to connect to old classmates too.

I like facebook, but ignore requests from "friends" that i've not seen in years, or "friends" that i were never actually friends with. You know, the "friends" that know you went to their school and want to build up their e-penis via their "friends" list.

You think that by posting daily updates on a site with pictures of things you did and places you went to is keeping in touch? Wow..what a pathetic excuse to socialize.
Have friends abroad, talk to them trough IM(MSN, Yahoo, Skype,etc), facebook is just self advertisment with a pathetic ribbon of "have a social life". Social life means that you have people around you, PEOPLE, not fucking internet friends.
Facebook is full of fuckin retards that measure popularity by friends nr and how much people like shit that no one really cares about. "wow, i've got 1000 friends, i know now like 100 but that's cool" - prime example of fucking popularity contest.
Needing attention =/= socializing. |

Basically what you're saying if they suddenly made friend count something that is private, immediately everyone would stop using facebook. Because that is the only reason they use it right?
