i general dont ask this, becuase i do find these kinds of questions silly but with what the requirements fr this game being high and others are saying the demo plays pretty good on mid range systems. i have to ask.. How will this play on my system ya think.

the demo has its own story in most part.
you wont level up so easy
you wont get that kind of weapons.armors so early in game

BUT THE GOTHIC SERIES IS OFFICIALY DEAD. This game may be a good rpg (dont think so) but has nothing to do with the first 3 games( only the name remained)

WAITING FOR RISEN 2....

I would have accepted this game better if they had changed the name completely. I do NOT want to be reminded about Gothic when i play this, it just make me a very saaaad panda Sad

Risen2 and TW2 is way more interesting that this..

Demo is okay, end is crap but like someone said that has probably been tweaked to show off some higher level stuff.

Combat is easy as shit. You can dodge attacks way too easily(Everything except mine crawlers), or you can't dodge them at all (Mine crawlers). If you set it to hard difficulty it actually makes it worse because now every enemy has high amount of health and you just have to spam attack combo, dodge, spam attack combo, dodge, etc. and you really start to notice how repetitive the combat is. And hard difficulty doesn't make it that much harder to play, only takes longer to kill enemies, and you can still dodge their attacks piss easy.

And that fucking canadian witch at the end...omg the rage, so annoying, and so cheesy. Who wrote that shit. I don't have high hopes for a good story anymore.

But overall I liked it, aside from those things.

Fair review. I had no problem dodging the mine crawlers, btw. Yeah dodging seems overpowered, especially with full armor.

Finished the demo on Normal. Yea, really easy fights. But actually I'm 100% convinced this demo was deliberately made that way. No way that in the 1st hour of game one finds magic hammer with life steal, some magic armor and stomps easly Earth Golem on lvl5. It definetely is not how the game plays out in the full release, I'm sure of it (or the devs are dumb as fuck).

Yes it's obvious that you get a small tast of whats to come in the full game. Fighting 5 dead paladins with a rusty two handed sword on level 5 on "hard" mode is not quite what one is used to compared to Gothic 2 f.e.

I'm a tiny bit less dissapointed after finishing the demo now. Mostly because I'm a gothic fan, and I want to know how the story will develop. The teaser at the end had its effect. Very Happy

I still think the gameplay does not feel solid enough, fighting is waay to easy (remember the first wolf you came across in gothic 2?) and jaggy at the same time. And so is every move you make, like running, grabbing things, looking around or jumping. It just doesnt quite feel right.

Alot of possible and meaningfull actions (alchemy, trainers, sleeping etc.) are mssing from the game, but that was know since the first previews.

The skill system seems boring to say the least and so seems the character design of NPCs.

And then, not enough beasts in the woods, but most importantly no feeling of danger whatsoever, and as such, no feeling of adventure. Even at hard levels, the game felt like childplay. And by putting barriers everywhere, you cant even come close to some uber beast. Thats pretty much what will ruin the biggest part of the game for me.
Okay it's more user friendly. I do hope that the "gothic" difficulty mode can make up for this a little bit, allthough it will never make up for those stupid barriers, shielding you from the harm...

The best thing in the game seem to be the gfx. They created a very beautiful world for the most part. Really unique and well shaped. Nice landscapes, twon design and NPC design. Also the engine scales pretty well on my Q9550 & 8800GT. Playable, allthough not on ultra settings.

I will pirate the game, and maybe buy it if it gets better in the end.

Yes, even Lara Croft looked better in Tomb Raider 1.

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

So how long did it take you guys to complete this? I grabbed it and installed it in the morning, but I've spent my afternoon fiddling around with Win XP so I haven't tried it yet.

Just tried it, runs great at 1080p @ Ultra settings lowest was 43fps in village, pretty nice graphics, expect that water effect from 90s. Game itself felt like shit, these kind of games usually hooks you up immediately, but didnt get that feeling on this one :/

I am getting suspicious, I am being followed by a sheep now o.O
Seems like alchemy and weaponsmithing will be in the game.
The world looks very nice and is Gothic like enough but the story and quests are so linear.
Also seems that swimming or climbing will be no option in this game.

Anyway, I'm firing this up now.

Indeed, you can smith weapons and mix potions...

in your pocket!!

The Game looks nice but has nothing on the inside.

!!!Warning!!! Dont look at the quest log in the last room at the end of the game!!! Huge spoilers!! Apparently they put the End of the game log entry in there. I hope it's just a gag, otherwise its n legendary epic fail from Spellbound!

There is a forge, an anvil and an alchemy set in the village, but interacting with them doesnt allow you to craft shit. Instead you just press C and craft whatever you want no matter where you are. That's a huge step backwards in terms of realism.

But what a big leap for "immershun" . No more are you forced to find a smitty, forge armour in your pocket thanks to your sheer awesomness and attraction to suspiciously male looking women ;D

That's a file for DirectSound or possibly the newer Microsoft audio system, could be related to the soundcard depending on what you use, for Xonar try to disable the GX effect is enable and lowering the sample rate (Vista/W7) to 48000 if you are using higher might help in general, Creative I'm a bit unsure about and Realtek/Soundmax might need a driver update.

Reinstalling the latest DirectX 2010 redistributable might help but the files are separate so the previous version was XAudio2_5.dll or some such.
