I do remember we had a thread for lesser known games somewhere but meh.

When I talk about a game being obscure I don't necessarily mean strange.
It might just not be well known or innovative in it's game design etc.

Normally I would start this off with Dwarf Fortress. But that game got it's own thread here so I'm just gonna link it:

Next up would be Minecraft but that's also known enough these days:

So for now I chose something else.
And that game is Liberal Crime Squad

LCS is a game, originally developed by Tarn Adams of Bay 12 games.
Somewhere along the line he published the source code and now a bunch of guys from the Bay12 forums maintain it and keep developing it.

So what is it about?
Imagine a conservative/right-wing america. Now envision yourself starting an urban militant ultra left-wing group to fight the conservatives.
Basically you organize the group, recruit new members, send them on assignments (which range from legal fundraising like playing guitars or selling arts over hacking website to vandalising labs and kidnapping people).
Why do you do this? Because the game has a list of laws that start of conservative (like animal rights, abortions, gun control, free speech etc.).
The president, parliament and supreme court are conservative as well.
You're trying to change that. Goal of the game is to get all those things to be elite liberal.

What does it look like?
Seeing as it's a Bay12 game it should come as no surprise that the game got ASCII graphics.
Though it's easier on the eyes than Dwarf Fortress since most of the game (except entering buildings and such) is held in pure text based style.

What does it play like?
I could write pages about that. Or I'm just lazy and link you to some youtube videos done by Jonathan S. Fox one of the programmers of the open source version so you can get an idea of what it's like.
Enjoy.

Check it out, it's actually quite fun to play.

Yeah it is but I don't think stuff like LCS will pop up there.
Oh well. Thread was worth a try but people don't seem to care.
Meh.
