No no.. I mean just releasing the server software, not the actual game client.

Well they can't continue selling the game when the official servers are done. :\

I meant for people who had already bought the game, as a kind of "thank you, sorry for fucking you over.. but here you go, you can at least have the server stuff to keep playing" kind of thing.

Gears Of War Studio To Buy Failed MMO?
MMO title All Points Bulletin failed, and took its developer with it. So why on Earth would a company as successful as Epic Games be interested in buying the rights to the game?
A report on the BBC says that, according to a "source close to the development team", a few companies are showing interest in picking at the corpse of the game, seeing if there's a pocket watch or gold filling to be had. One of the those companies is Epic Games, the studio behind one of the industry's most popular graphics engines (and the Gears of War and Unreal Tournament series).
Adding to this speculation is a Eurogamer report, citing a "Dundee development source" (Realtime were based in Dundee, Scotland) that says "[Realtime boss] Dave Jones and Epic is quite the talking point in town. He and Mr Rein are good chums and have worked together on many levels for years and years and years. And he's not going to raise much money/staff here in the near future."
Eurogamer also report that Jones recently moved to the US.
Being both catastrophically unpopular and lacking in any real memorable hook, it's tough imagining why Epic would want the rights to APB. Unless they just like the name!

I'm not so sure about that. | You will be sure very soon. I have years seeing this to come. For some reason many people refuse to believe it. |
*Yawn* You have seen games based solely on Micro Transactions being the only MMO's out there coming for years ?, well keep looking, because it's never gonna happen.
Sure the shitty low-end-low-subscribers are gonna go Microtransactions, but the big dogs, who really put their all into the games are never gonna go with that.
And as a decade-old MMO player who have been there, done that, with almost all the big non-asian MMO's I can tell you for certain, those of us who really play the games and don't just wanna grind, we prefer a fixed monthly fee and a steady game over the crap that is F2P.
If they want extra money they can go the blizzard way and add a shop, but the games gotta be good for that to work, the rest like LOTRO are just gonna have the same low-number permanent players and a few on-off freebies

If you ask me there are only two "big dogs", WoW and EVE; very old games BTW. That two are "maybe" the only ones not going to free to play or worst, closing.

APB Steam refund update
=====================
http://savygamer.co.uk/2010/09/25/apb-steam-refund-update/
If you bought APB from Steam, apparently EA are now offering a free game as a refund. Valve put up a brick wall, but EA are making up for the fact that customer who bought their game ended up with nothing to show for it.
If you contact them through this site, and tell them you’d like another game to replace APB, they will give you any game currently available on the EA Store. I don’t think that they will let you get preorders, but it’s worth a shot.
You can pick from the likes of Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age: Origins, Spore, The Saboteur, Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and all sorts of other stuff.

How did you contact them? APB isn't even the drop-down box for "Select A Game" when going through their little form mailer. What do they need as proof?
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

APB going free-to-play in 2011
Quote: | Crime MMO APB will make its return next year with a new free-to-play business model.
Last week, the APB intellectual property was acquired by K2 Network, the firm behind free-to-play service GamersFirst.
Bjorn Book-Larsson, CTO and COO of GamersFirst, told IGN that APB is currently being prepped for its re-release as "a true free-to-play game" in 2011.
In September, APB creator Realtime Worlds closed the MMO after just three months. |

As if it wasn't unbalanced enough to begin with, now it's going to be Pay2Win. Despite all it's flaws and frustrations, I do miss the fuckin' thing though.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.
