1 GB should be fine I think. I'm not sure about netbooks to be honest, never bought one. The Asus Eee PC 1005 PE(B) seems to be a very popular one though so

get 2gb its pretty std in a lappy/notebook id not go with 1gb if you can help it..
Somone i knew who does just that browses only for car sales on autotrader etc and the odd other small app nothing major and bought one of these.

its over the 300 quid mark not sure what that is in euros but its actually solid for web stuff you may be able to find deals with a bigger screen though which is always nice.. this ones been reduced in price but not sure why it was so much anyhow due to the feature list was not that special.

do NOT buy toshiba laptops, especially their shitty satalite models.
You want a solid laptop? buy a lenovo, I've gotten like 3 people here to buy one and they all love them. You can get them pretty cheap.

Yeah I got a lenovo myself but there are none in the price range that fits my father's.
I'll probably persuade him to get the Asus eee 1201N, seems solid.

Very solid. ION based so using CoreAVC it can even do 1080p without any problems

nothing wrong with toshiba builds, dont know wtf ur going on about u silly squirrel.. asus, pls ffs asus have had so many bad solder joint issues with the screens of late its a gamble that you get one that wont go white or solid black on you after a short space of time...

as of now toshiba makes some of the shittiest quality laptops next to dell here in the states, dunno if it's different out there but out here you stay clear of dell and toshiba |

I'm not sure on what OS to use as well. Is the specs enough for win 7 or should I go for xp

On my Thinkpad it actually gets more life out of the battery than XP w/ SP2 or 3 does

Yeah, a dual core with 2GB RAM (the 1215N), there is no reason why not to go with W7.

I see then, what release can you recommend? there are so many releases and i'm not very knowledgable. Do I go for 32bit or 64 bit?
I also have a cdkey for win 7 home premium that came with but yeah, don't really care about it. Just want the best

Well the Intel Atom is a 64-bit processor, so it doesn't really matter which one you choose. Since you have a Home Premium key, then just use that and don't bother with serials. You really don't need any of the benefits of Professional or Ultimate on a netbook:

Can't find any release, no groups interested in releasing the home premium version or? Even checked the db on nfohump.
Also, 64-bit is x64 release right?
Really appreciate the help.

Right, the so called "x86" is 32-bit and "x64" or more correctly, "x86-64" is 64-bit.
You can use the same code for both 32-bit and 64-bit.
Let me see if I can't drop you a direct download link from MS.

Just format a USB stick with NTFS and copy the contents of the ISO to the USB drive.

Ah 
I've never liked tools that do everything for you, so I haven't tried it. Format and starting extracting is faster than going to a site as well.

Run into some problems or well..
I formated my USB stick with NTFS and then extracted the files within the ISO on the usb. Then I went into bios on my 1215N and changed the boot device priority and set the HDD last and the USB stick first. Still with those settings it doesn't query me if i want to boot from USB.
I tried running setup file when in windows 7 but when you install that way you're apparently not able to change the partitions which I want to do. Anybody got any clue on what I should try? I also tried by using the tool ManMountain recommended but same shit. Tried changing from AHCI to IDE and booting but that didn't go well either.
I'm out of ideas, anybody?

What options do you have as boot devices? Sometimes USB storage devices are called "Removable storage" and you need to select that in order to boot.
Also what happened when you tried booting from the USB? It proceded automatically to the HDD and what was installed, or did if give you some error that NTLDR (or something similar) is missing?

Press F11 during boot? At least, it's F11 with most BIOS's, gives you the boot selection popup. If it doesn't boot from the USB when you select it in that popup, it's simply not bootable

Okay this is how it looks like in the boot section of the bios:
> Boot Device Priority
> Hard Disk Drives
> Boot settings configuration
Onboard lan Boot ROM [Disabled]
The F11 thing didn't work, no list came up.
I tried the removable storage at first priority but didn't work either.
Gonna try to fiddle around a bit more, please write if you have any more ideas.

Alright, post the options you have in Boot Disk Device Priority and Hard Disk Drives. My guess is Hard Disk Drives will not have the USB drive.
