My girlfriend quit smoking.
Let's start at that.
Today I sat in her living room while she was on the balcony.
Now I'm sitting here not thinking anything when I suddenly think I smell a whiff of cigarette smoke.
Didn't think much by it beceause outside her living room window is a pretty busy street.
Couple hours later I catch the same whiff again.
Dunno where my gf was at the time.
Then she comes up says how much her kitchen smells and that it annoys her so she's gonna light a joss stick in the kitchen and goes back out to the balcony.
So, now I need someone at least partly objective on this.Am I seeing things over mere coincidences or is she trying to hide the fact that she started smoking again from me?
Once again I make the freaking mistake and ask for real life advice on the hump. Silly me.

It is not uncommon for smokers to smoke one or two a day while getting used to the lack of nicotine, just as drug addicts are given smaller dosages of drugs while in withdrawal. So it could be that.
Could also be that she is embarrassed she has returned smoking and trying to hide it.
In either case, calling it lying is a bit extreme in my opinion, but yeah, you should of course discus this with her, and make sure to calm her that it's not the end of the world.

Problem is, do I wanna find out?
Because to me there's nothing worse than lying to someone you love (well, except it is to protect them in some sort from stuff, you know what I mean).
Plus I'm a freaking whimp when it comes to stuff like that (talking I mean) - still wonder sometimes how I managed to get a gf after all.
And you know how that goes, if she's lying to me I'll start asking myself what else she might be lying about, yada yada resulting in me not trusting her anymore.
Call me a douche if you want, I apparently am a douche.

Have you pressured her to stop smoking? Or at least have you indicated that you don't like it?
Could be that she is embarrassed and does not want to "disappoint" you. You should really discuss this with her in a calming manner.
And no need to go so extreme over smoking, wow...

Nah you're not a douche but I guess you are insecure about this.
But there is no hiding smoking if you kiss her and you're not a smoker she will taste like an ashtray.
Something else your gf/partner will always have secrets.
If you think about it there must little things about yourself that you will probably never tell her.

Really man...shes' gonna lie to you about it, most people will. It's just a common fact of addiction. I smoke and i'd tell my fiancee I quit while stopped kissing her to light up. To expect to make her quit or to make her promise to quit ( if you did this at all, she may of offered to do so), kind of reminds me of the old christian saying of not dating non christians, where they are much more likely to pull you down off a chair then you are able to pull them up onto the same chair.. bad analogy...as it needs some visual crap and an understanding of wtf i'm talking about..but whatever.
If you feel real strongly about it i'd say approach her, but be prepared for the worst here. She'll become extremely defensive, and with that immediate pressure, insecurity, and worry she'll want to smoke at that moment, making her even more cranky....

either way give him/her some slack, ain't easy to quit, and smoking ain't all that bad as propaganda makes it out to be, matter of fact you should try it too, it's relaxing.

@Reklis Man, I am all anti smoking myself, don't worry. I will not go out with a person who smokes. I find it disguising. My mom is all the ashtray I need in my life.
I am just saying, sometimes pressuring someone to do something can lead to them hiding because they do not want to disappoint their loved ones. You just have to be supportive I guess and let her know you are willing to help her through the process.

second it's not like she quit 2 weeks ago.
It's been about... what? 9-10 months by now already?
So either I'm seeing things, she never quit in the first place or started again for some godforsaken reason.
Which doesn't get me anywhere.

See, this is where our opinions differs.
If she's single she can do whatever the fuck she wants to.
But since she's in a relationship she should take my thoughts/feelings into consideration.
And since she's always nagging me to show more consideration for her I can ask the same, no?
btw. I figure you're either a smoker or an ex smoker, right?
and just to make sure that people read why I think it ain't a good idea that she smokes:
both her parents died from lung cancer
Or do I really have to dig up some researches that clearly state smokers have a higher lung cancer risk than non- or ex-smokers?
With other people I don't give a shit but with my girlfriend who I intend to spend at least a good portion of my life with I think I have all the right reasons to give a fuck.

Dunno man... You can call the taking your consideration into affect if you are claiming it is effecting your relationship as far as she stinks like carcinogens. As far as her taking the risk of getting lung cancer I don't think you can try to make that decision for her. My mother has smoked most of her life and her lungs are somehow freaking pristine. It would be the same as her wanting you to get off the internet because you have a higher percentage of becoming obese.

but those are a lot less. Though with sinking numbers of people smoking the percentage of non-smokers dying from lung cancer rises but that's statistics bullshit.
It's a given fact that smokers suffer from a higher risk of getting lung cancer than non-smokers.

I'm not disagreeing with you on that, I'm just saying you may not wish to open up the considerations topic to her if you bring it up with her. It's going to be a sensitive issue and I think that may turn it away from her smoking and somehow onto you leaving your socks under the bed.
