The game is very good, realistic and engaging.
All the hate towards it concerns the lack of dedicated servers and the remove of the leaning ability.
The leaning ability is the worst problem imo, it was removed to make it more accessible to console derps and us PC gamers suffer from it.
With a title as popular as this, it's expected that they try to cash in as much as possible, and the lack of dedicated servers was their response to it.
But you can't deny that the game is great in every other aspect, even with all the political bad decisions behind it's release.

Favorite? Hard to tell, as you have to include sentimental values which would cloud a real comparison. But certainly Bad Company 2 has much better shooting mechanics than MW2. Or something Like Rainbow Six (before the abysmal Lockdown) - they were fantastic also.

I never played Bad Company 2 online, I played only through the SP campaign, but I have to say that when compared, I find MW2 more addictive than Bad Company 2, not that it is technically better, but I find it overwhelmingly more addictive.
You said you lol'd about my previous statement, but you can't exactly say that MW2 is a bad game, sure there are many criticisms one can make from it, but will you say it isn't a good game?

I can surely say it's bad. It's bad for me. I played both SP and MP (early crack, but it hasn't changed). SP is a retarded Michael Bay-esque storyline which is just really. On the MP side, it's even worse. It's a killstreak-em-up, who spams the most kill streaks. And they are so far fetched and retarded that it is just not fun. MW1 also had them, but at least they were somewhat logical. Here it's just spam the shit out of everyone. MoH also has kill streaks, but again, they are somewhat logical (although I can again see spam potential in that, that is why I am not buying it).
And as various videos have shown, IW couldn't even do that properly. It's full of exploitable bugs and design flaws which are still yet to be fixed.
So what's there to love? The lackluster shooting mechanics? For me they feel like dumbed down for consoles to an uncomfortable level, much more so, in my opinion, than MW1 or WaW (which I love a lot). In fact, MW2 has nothing going for it. Animations transitions are, graphics are horrible (yes, it still uses the 2005 CoD2 engine, which is a heavily modifies Quake 3 engine ), the story is retarded, the music is silly melodramatic Michael Bay-esque bore.
Now, that is my opinion of course. If you find the above mentioned things appealing, then there is not much to discuss.
Now, I will not claim that BF2 SP is anything special. It shows the engine well, it has the same good shooting mechanics as the MP, but the story is lacking. But it is still head and shoulders above MW2 SP. MP is no competition though.

The SP campaign in BC2 is quite pale even if compared to the MW2's one (which, in my opinion, was inferior to the original Modern Warfare).
The multiplayer part is where the game really shines, and even with some bugs and several problems with the hit detection, it's still one of the best multiplayer experiences on PC.
*edit* Plus pratically everything Leo said.

I agree with you in everything that you said, but the thing is, this is a game, not a movie, I play it for the experience, not the multi layered plot, don't get me wrong, I love complex games, enjoying DoW 2 greatly atm (thanks to you), but when it comes to FPS, I really like the chaotic cliched "michael bay" nature of the action, I recognize that MW2 has more flaws than holes in a swiss cheese, but it's something that I have found to be extremely addictive, specially when playing online.
Looking back now, I have to say that as far as single player campaigns go, my favorite SP was without a doubt World at War, it was superb on every aspect, the soundtrack was outstanding, the cut scenes extremely well made, it was overall the best WW2 FPS that I remember playing.
I think that the level of chaotic intensity you find on MW2 is what makes me enjoy it, most games that I have played are much slower in that regard, perhaps there are games even more intense than MW2 and I have not played them yet, if that is the case, you can recommend me some
No other game I played has that chaotic feel to it, grenades being thrown from every direction, being fragged once every 60 seconds.
It's not what I usually like in games, but I enjoy it on occasion, and I have yet to found a game that does it better than MW2 in that regard.

Ah so you like the chaos haha, that explains it. Hm, but I really can't think of any other game that is so chaotic.
I agree about the WaW campaign, but only the CCCP campaign. The US was a little silly and was only fun for a little while the flame-thrower was introduced. That is why I still have little hope about Black Ops that it might not suffer from the Michael Bay syndrome and actually have a decent story.

Same, I liked more the European campaign than the Japanese one, the best Japanese level was the second I think when they land in the beach and have to push their way through the Japanese forces, but it was overall a superb SP campaign.
MW2 is not my favorite game or anything close to that, if anything it is my favorite nonsense game if you know what mean.
It is very good if you look at it strictly as an action game and nothing more.

You should really try BC2, I havent even played through the SP I went straight for the MP and I found it as addictive as MW2 and alot better both technical & balance wise.
