This is sad news. And now I had no doubts that when Dragon Age 3 comes out, it will be just a simple third person shooter. Sad

I didn't have any particular doubt about this, but after having watched The Witcher 2 becoming a third person action shooter and Dragon Age 2 transforming into a Mass Effect 2 clone, I had to somewhat unleash my rage. Laughing

But BioWare as we know it are dead. Just face it.. They are complete sellouts like IW..

Looks like it... but I still don't get it... hell, they even had the balls to release a real Addon for DA1. That's rare these days... Why?! WTF!!..

Well, but Witcher2 looked at least somewhat promising for me and I don't know why you compare it to a third person shooter? oO
Did I miss something at the presentation? Is it because you'll be able to aim with your bow?

Maybe a last tribute to us PC-gamers? Sad

Future looks grim for us real gamers. Thats for sure.
The REAL PC-gaming industry is dying. Not beacuse of piracy or bad sell numbers.
But beacuse of consoletards and sellout companys.
There will be no more Baldurs Gate epicness in terms of games.
No more Real RPG's. All we will have is dumbed down Fable 3 "RPG's".

Fuck it. Gaming is dying for sure.. Crying or Very sad

Judging by several previews of the short demo the combat is indeed changed. The guys who played the demo weren't as put off as you seem to be though.

Quote:
Why did Bioware make these changes? The designers stated that these moves were made in direct response to the comments from the fans and reviews of the original title. It’s good to see Bioware listens to its audience, but it may have misunderstood why some people enjoyed the first game so much.

I can perfectly understand the above statement, it's too bad the majority rules.

PS. the demo was simplified for demo purposes. So hopefully the combat will be somewhat challenging. To be fair, combat was one of teh worst aspect of the previous game. As long as the gameworld and the background stories are top notch like the first one, it's all fine for me.

The point is not that they're changing the combat the point is that every single fucking game in every single genre is turning into the same derpy trash.

Can't they keep some games different from the mass of retarded shit for once?

I was talking about this video Wink

I really hope that the level shown here is completely uncorrelated to how the main game will look once Geralt reaches the main city, otherwise we can safely say that The Witcher is dead as well as DA.

Uhm yeah, that's the same presentation I saw there too. Live. But I liked it. They showed us different approaches to get through this dungeon. It had Thief features too (like not to walk through water on the ground cause the guards could hear it and stuff). For me it looked exciting and wouldn't compare it to DA2. For me it looks like they improved it very much and you're able to be more interactive with your surroundings. I'm looking forward to it and I loved the first game.
Maybe it's the video. Or it's the different tastes again Razz

I gotta say,the whole cover system, stealth attacks and dousing torches got me hoping that it's just an added feature to the existing ones from the first game. And in no way a change they wanted to make to the core gameplay...

But nonetheless I played the first witcher with the shoulder cam,so it doesn't bother me much that the top view is gone. I always felt like the witcher was meant to be played via should cam.
Still very excited about it. Smile

But about DA2:

It sucks. Laughing ...so far.

This is about normal for game dev's these days.

1. Create games until you come across something people truly liked
2. Release a bunch of overpriced DLC
3. Announce a sequel
4. Cheap out on the sequel with the only concern making it as low cost as possible
5. Release game and rake in money from people who thought it would follow in the footsteps of the original
6. Go belly up and laugh all the way to the bank with the big profits from the low cost "sequel" that had nothing in common with the original other than the name
7. Start a new company or join an existing one and then announce a new game that is the "spiritual successor" to the original well received game.

Maybe it's that because I played Witcher with shouldercam too. Hell I even did it with DA1 most of the times. But in DA2 I didn't even have the possibility to zoom out.

On my first playthrough of DA:O,I played almost the entire game with the zoomed out view. And on the second with a mix of both...
The zoomed out isometric view is a nice addition if done right and I would have loved to see it in DA2. :/

I used the tactical view in DA:O for combat when needed. It's useful if you want to get a better view of the situation and command your companions effectively. It wasn't always necessary, but it was still useful. I don't want to comment on the DA2 PC system, since I don't really know what that is and what will it look like. They mentioned some kind of a free camera... I guess we'll just have to wait and see. They have already said that the console crowd is their target audience, so it's expected that PC info is not as heavily advertised. At least they were upfront about it...

I never had a use for the top-down view in Witcher however, you didn't really need to command anyone, and there wasn't much of tactical positioning. I don't really even like top-down gameplay in games like this, I refer keeping the view closer to the action Smile
Still, the option to use it would be nice for those who did play the game that way. But I suppose the gameplay changed enough that it didn't make sense anymore...

Well I don't know the exact numbers, but like I said before I still think the pc version sold more than ps3 or 360. I'm willing to bet ps3/360 combined just sold more than pc.
In that regard,I also find their statement about following console audience a bit funny.

Do they know how many of the console gamers liked or disliked the combat and game mechanics? They get some users complaining on their forums and they automatically assume these ppl speak for the whole audience?

It just feels wrong and I guess it all comes down to shareholders/EA or whatever...

Well usually it's the publishers who figure out what the target audience wants. They have whole departments watching the market and taking note of what makes the mainstream crowd buy and spend...
And we all know the audience loves weapons at maximum! Smile

ahhh, but there lies the problem I'm having with this whole issue. Very Happy
DA:O was Biowares best selling game iirc,so why change the core game mechanic towards ME,when the game in question didn't sell as much?

I really think they would have made more money with a proper sequel to DA:O,one that adressed whatever problems the original had, rather than this new mish mash of genres.

Mass Effect 2 was the one with unanimous critical acclaim though, and there have been interviews with the Founders that they obsess about that kind of thing. Going for sales + acclaim with these changes, maybe... Bah, none of it really makes sense.

Yeah I keep coming back to the thought that it would be funny if the reason DAO sold more in the first place, was because it was more hardcore and that was what people wanted, so we could see the sales go down when they "masseffect" it and we could smack publishers' dumbfounded derpy faces with these figures, for thinking they know how to make a "better" product Smile

But I think that in reality the fact that DAO was released on PS3, while ME2 was not, helped it with the sales. BioWare obviously saw the market with DAO and that's why they are pushing ME2 out there as well, despite Microsoft's wishes. They didn't seem to be so eager before...

That maybe true for the PC, but not for the consoles. Hardcore oldshool rpg doesn't work in the console market, so they'll mass effect it and sell dozens more.
