I've read somewhere that there is actually a setting for the health regeneration, you can toggle between two modes

1. regenerating health
2. health only regenerates from medkits like mafia 1 and also by eating food in restaurants, you will also take more damage in this mode

The console will ofcourse have mode 1 enabled by default

You mean they will actually take the time to design 2 gameplay modes? One with and one without medikits? I doubt so... It much easier to just leave the medkits away and give the player regenerative health. No need to worry about item placement that way...

hats off to the devs if they actually did this
but to be fair there werent many situations where one full life bar wasnt enough and you needid some extra health

ah , in case some of you didnt know ,in Mafia the Creme De La Creme mission had 2 alternatives ways of doing it, 1 where you follow him to the airport and shoot him down (i always had this version) and an 2 where you follow him in the countryside and force him off a bridge

The first time I played I got the bridge way but all the other times I always get the airport. I have never understood is it random or does it depend on something?

Depends on how close you are to him at a certain point during the chase from what i gather.

There are also several variations during the sniping mission.

What? You're kidding me? I must've played the game a dozen times, and always followed him to the airport. His car would magically speed up the second we got outside of the city.
And what's this about the sniper mission? There's another way???

Mafia 2 review - 80% in PC Zone

I don't know whether this magazine is reliable or not, still:

Quote:
The first verdict on 2K's Mafia II is in - and PC Zone's view is that, despite some annoying flaws, it's still a winner.

The mag gives the Mafia title 80% in its new October (yes, bloody October) issue - which is with subscribers now.

The game's major drawback, says Zone, is that it's an 'extremely linear driver and shooter'.

However, if you can get over that rather restrictive fact, there's plenty to enjoy for those nostalgic for the Cosa Nostra's days of US dominance.
The mag says that the dialogue is 'fine, and extremely well acted', adding that driving, 'as you'd expect from the former Illusion Software [2K Czech], is great'.

It continues: 'The collection of cars is great too - all timely models that damage so gently that you'll try to take care of them.'

All aspects of the game are covered in Zone's spectacular seven-page review - with more praise coming for the game's weapons and action sequences, despite a slightly 'cold' storyline.

It adds: 'Mafia II is 10 hours of driving, story and extremely competent gun action. Running at top specs, it looks stunning, and if there was a soundtrack album, I'd buy myself a copy.'

The October issue of PC Zone is in stores next week, and with subscribers today.

Mafia II is due for release on 360, PS3 and PC on August 27

Well, that's what the first one was, and it was excellent since it focused a lot on a believable story.

To be honest, the major part of gameplay time in the first game was simply driving from one point to another. That "annoying flaws" part is something I don't like seeing Smile

There were so many small issues in the first one that frustrated the hell out of me on occasion - I don't remember when was the last time I was so annoyed at a game.
Thankfully the story and the setting were great and action decent enough (would be great if, again, not for some issues) that overall I liked the game in the end. But I always thought if they'd fix those flaws it could be perfect...

extremely linear.

alarm bells going off.

they are gonna fuck up the sequel to one of the best games ever made.

You should be building upon GTA4 with more features, random events, stuff to do, your in a big market place here, you HAVE to be competitive and do what the others do but do it fucking better to succeed.

over at the 2k forums they have said there no random events, everything that happens is scripted) even the "random" fender bender incidents and the "random" bar fights, they are all prescripted for when you drive/walk past

Im not saying this will be shit, im just saying its not competitive enough or has any where fucking near as many features and sanbox games.

and before people cry "its not a sandbox game wah wah fucking wah" it IS a sandbox game otherwise dont go and make a highly detailed city,
just make it load> mission> load> mission> load> mission> load> end credits

my guess is 2K are going to drop the ball with this sandbox/freedom problem.

I think what annoys me the most is the delays this game has been through, you could have at least added dynamic weather /day/night cycle, RANDOM events. Side quests.

youve been sitting on your hands 2K, and youll pay the price in sales.

First game was fairly linear though allowed full exploration of the city and surroundings when not continuing the story, had a separate more open mode to unlock extra vehicles and explore a alternate city version which was more traditional sandbox but there wasn't much else to do.
(Focus on story seems like a good thing, short might be a drawback but if it's a good story and not just filler content like driving back and fort it might balance it, hopefully even if there's not many side activities outside of the story the city will feel fairly alive and responsive instead of random traffic and civilians and a few spawning cops when you bend\break the law a bit.)

EDIT: There was a few activities come to think of it, finding new car models and having them stored so you could lockpick them and drive them for example.
(Some more special models like a bullet proof limousine were part of the story and new vehicles were introduced as you progressed which kept things interesting.)

I agree with evilmonkey... The first game was very linear too though but it doesnt mean they HAVE to make the second one like that too, i thought the story was ok, but quite overrated, the voice acting was really terrible at times. Didnt' come close to GTA's greatness imo, especially not San Andreas.

Might play this anyways but buying it is out of the question, im too spoiled with sandbox games which are way more fun than movie-like game experiences which i've never really understood the point of (since movies are always better anyways when it comes to acting etc).

There's like fifty or so Mafia 2 related entries for Steam to use in that .blob archive by now so I only grabbed the ones I think might be of use, all that's needed now is a disc with the SIM/SID files for it to be unpackable, though I don't know if it's gone gold yet.
(Might be to get early reviews out as the exclusive preview content type and exclsuive review content type are also available now as is the DLC for them.)

I also found some other DLC info this way although it doesn't say much aside from it's name.

EDIT: Fifty might be generous, it begins at 50130 and ends at 50489 though not all numbers are filled but a lot of them are.
(That language data is repeated often for one reason and a lot of debug entries, Q&A and beta entries and much else clutter it, should have most of the game related stuff in the above though.)

EDIT: Like that.

That racing part was the most annoying in the game. Mostly thanks to the not so great driving mechanics in the game - the sense of speed was just way off.
May be I am just spoiled by modern racing games where everything just flies right past you, but in Mafia there were many occasions where it seemed like you were barely moving, while in fact it was some 100+ kph. So you start taking that turn and spin completely out of control at the slightest increase of a throttle or even while trying to brake - to me it made as much sense as a snail skidding off the road on a sharp turn.

It was playable once you get used to it, but still I remember the frustration while I was trying to figure it out.

Why Cool Face? Honestly, it wasn't that fucking hard. o.O

Well, perhaps not exactly at the first try, but I didn't find it insanely difficult either Razz
