I'm going to Sicily for 2 weeks, starting on 2nd of July. Any tips? I'm really psyched about visiting the famous Corleone town, but otherwise I don't know much. I really love Italian food though.
@Neon I've been in Sicily in 2003, during a high school trip. We only visited non-resort places, so probably I won't be useful to you, anyway this is a list of what we saw:
Taormina: a poetic town, with greek ruins overlooking a wonderful tiny bay;
Palermo: great in terms of hystorical monuments but way too messy and busy;
Agrigento: a terrible city, do not visit it ; but visit "La Valle dei Templi" instead (which is near the city), probably one of the most important archaeological sites of the entire Italy;
As I said, we didn't have the possibility to have a good swim since the water was too cold (it was May), but it doesn't matter where you'll go, the beaches and the sea are absolutely terrific everywhere.
Though if you like white beaches and crystalline sea (and who doesn't), you MUST visit at least one of these places: Mondello, Capo d'Orlando, Capo Passero, Giardini Naxos. =)
We didn't visit the Corleone town though, even if we really wanted to
Have fun mate!!
Holy shit.. get OUT of my head! A soon as I saw "Sicily" in the title, I was going to post that! Only reason I didn't was because I didn't wanna get in shit for it
You've been lucky that the temperature is around the 30°C, normally in this period Sicily is covered by hellish climate which can touch even the 40°C
Paradoxically, it's a lot more heat where I live (Tuscany) despite the northern position =)
It's not only about the temperature, I've survived in Egypt or Jerusalem when it was like 48 degrees(mid July). The problem is, Sicily has really moist air, and so I'm getting sweaty like hell.
