It is wrong, you can't do that in an equation. It's like doing sth like this:

1-1 = 1000-1000
1(1-1) = 1000(1-1)

1=1000

The end doesn't matter. X is 0, What you do is equivalent to 12X : 12X = 1. You divide by 0, and the result of a division by 0 is bullshit anyway (as Neon25 demonstrated practically) since the division by 0 is undefined.

You can square as you want, but you have to be careful with roots and consider both possible solutions.Your example is a root, not a square.
The problem is simply that he divided by 0 (see Neon25's post for an example).

then A^2 = B^2 is also true.

x/2 = 2x
2*x/2 = 2*2x
x = 4x
x - x = 4x - x
0 = 3x
0/3 = 3x/3
x = 0 there solved (no dividing by x needed here)
but since the OP said 0 is not the solution I am very curious what the "real" solution is
also keep in mind that OP used a capital X

edit: btw try Alt+600 or Alt+0600 Smile
