I didn't like A Scanner Darkly. A short movie in that style is okay (10-20 minutes) but a whole movie in a CGI-cartoon style? Ruined it imho. Perhaps you'll appreciate it fully if you're into psychedelic drugs (shrooms, lsd and any other hallucination inducing drugs).

... and it's not CGI, it's a century-old technique called rotoscoping (computer-assisted in case of ASD).

i actually referenced that conversation
if nothing else, at least im happy to admit when i was wrong about something. you're right, as i already said, the characters were definately worse than the typical horror character stocks. you have to be willing to accept dumb characters in horror movies, but these characters were beyond dumb. they were frustrating and unlikable.

survival of the dead 4/10
ahh jeez. give me ANY resident evil over this shit any day. romero has fucking lost the plot, though i do give him credit for finally making up his mind and turning it into a hilarious laugh out loud comedy in the last 10 or so minutes... just wish it coulda been that way from the start.

14 Blades - 9/10
Really liked it, IP man (Donnie Yen) still rules, the plot as usual pisses on most western-made movies, and all the fight coreographies are very kickass.
Survival of the Dead - 7/10
Meh, i may be a bit biased as i like most zombie movies, but i enjoyed it somewhat. Sure theres a few shortcomings, but with nothing else good to watch and nothing else to do, it's more than a good time waster.

so utterly shit that trying to express its shittiness in a number would forced the universe to implode
he actually saved us all by not rating it.
ghost machine 6.5/10
was actually surprised by how good it was. for a low budget film the effects were good, the story was interesting enough, and the acting was pretty good for the most part too. i just fucking hated the ending.
also, i swear, one of the lead actors looks and sound EXACTLY like a young tom cruise. im not kidding, im not talking some vague similarity, i would honestly not be surprised if this guy was the result of some kind of Scientology cloning project to create and army of tom cruises, and this was the first result.

Just watched A Scanner Darkly. For those who don't know, its a CGI movie adaption of a book written by Philip K. Dick.
This movie, for me, is very very close to what I think is 'perfect' and it strikes me in a way that no other films do. Its not my favorite film, in fact far from it, but as a spectacle, and as a film its absolutely amazing. I'm a really big fan of Phillip K. Dick's work and this film is as closer to the true PKD style than any of the other films (MR, Bladerunner etc). Phillip has an amazing ability to leave an overwhelming yet very subtle dark atmosphere to all of his stories and this film is a very good example of what I think Phil would have wanted.
Highly recommended if you havent seen it already, its also the movie adaption to one of my all time favorite books of the same name I think that was my (5th) viewing and I saw something differently each time. The story is very good, but also very bleak and depressing towards the end.. a very sad story overall for me. It tells the true tale of hard drug addiction without all of the pretentious bullshit. But of course, Very, very good stuff..
9/10 |
Im a massive fan of PKD as well, though i prefer his short stories to his novels.

Just watched it too. 5/10
This movie was nothing like the great Martial Arts movies. The CGI was sloppy, they should have sticked to "basic" effects which always worked pretty good. The plot was predictable and the story was just an excuse to make this movie. There was nothing new or interesting. While Donnie Yen is amazing, this movie pretty much sucked Hell they didn't even bother to cover his wig.

Clash Of The Titans 6/10.
Had it had an understandable story with less flaws it would have had better rating from me..but if it wasnt for the CGI I would proberbly have given it 4/10.
