WTF?!

I didn't download any software in the last time yet essentials suddenly found several harming viruses on my computer! Maybe I should really stick with avira, never ever had any problems with that one... fucking hell why didn't essentials tell me before???

Just look at this list:
TrojanDownloader:Win32/Harnig.gen!P
TrojanDownloader:JS/Renos
Trojan:Win32/Hiloti.gen!D
Virus:Win32/Virut.BN
Virus:Win32/Virut.BN
TrojanDownloader:Win32/Pacoheir.B
Virus:Win32/Virut.BN
Trojan:Win32/Alureon.CT

WTF!? Is essentials really that bad? Avira NEVER had such problems! And I downloaded A LOT MORE crap back then...

You should check out the latest tests with it at various websites. It's not as good as Kaspersky. Can't remember where it stood with NOD but it does really bad in most tests.

I said exactly the same as you on another forum and I was mocked, bad.

I'm using it on my two Win 7 machines. Lots of fals positives, but other than that no issues. I typically don't even bother with AnitVirus anymore. Haven't had one in a long time. I don't trust any of my pc's to order stuff online with either. The process list is always clean no performance issues. However, once install a single peice of *cracked* software, I quit trusting the PC. I just use the latest live stro of ubuntu for ordering stuff.

I use NOD since 2 years now and never had a false positive, failed detection or fucked up update. It simply works without annoying me or taking too much resources.
But as iNatan said, its crap. Listen to him, always go with MS...

I used NOD from version 2 all the way through 4 and watched it go down to shit from bloat. What started out as a fantastic little antivirus turned into full-out bloatware. Now it's a security suite, full with 10000000000 unneeded features. This is from my experience. I have been running MSE for months, never had one false positive, memory and CPU usage is much lower than what I used to have with NOD. The only minor nuisance I get from MSE is it sometimes asks to send files it sends suspicious, which are not suspicious at all (like BFBC2.exe Laughing). You can rage all you want, I only speak about my own experience, not yours. Smile

NOD4 was not catching alot of stuff for me. I had to reformat multiple times due to trojans/virsuses on XP. I then installed Windows 7 and used MS Essentials. After about 1 month I got a trojan that MS Essentials never caught. I discovered it after my Windows was running high CPU all the time and noticed in msconfig it had a bunch of bogus entries in startup that could not be removed.

Ended up formatting again and so far I 'Think' I am clean.

I have come to the conclusion that all the anti-virus programs out there suck.

Ok, so maybe me saying "essentials is meant to be pretty bad" was a bit OTT.

http://www.av-comparatives.org/comparativesreviews/main-tests

The latest two tests show Kaspersky beats Essentials in just about everything. Avira being the best AV. I have looked at test results from other independent sites too but I can't remember the site names.

??? what nonsense
Nod became the perfect internet protector , not only is it a antivir but also a firewall, antispam program, antispyware, mail protector, net filtering socket (like Pear guardian 2 aka PeerBlock) and a real time scanning protector
if your computer is slow and your a memory freak just turn off the real time file protector then if turn into compact mode of 15mb

in older days you have to have 8 program in your memory that your do those things that would take up 70-100mb of your memory , now the new NOD smart security takes only 30mb and only a few cycles from your cpu

N1 security. How is this fucking piece of virus able to install more malware and run it. Isn't UAC supposed to prevent that from happening? I dumped MSSE and guess what happened after installing Avira? 8 more positives. Feels great to have spyware on the computer. I would like to change my passwords NOW but I don't trust my own computer anymore... Will have to do this tomorrow from work. Fuck.

That's the only reason why I don't use Avira. I got sick of all the false positives after downloading a PC game. Doesn't Avira permanently delete whatever if finds on your system? I hope your keep your keygens and cracks in a .rar file Laughing

Isn't it just the one popup when it automatically updates? It would be annoying if you are playing an online game though.

Leo the first ones found by security essentials were real threats. What pisses me off is that they seem to be on my computer for quite some time. That's why I installed Avira. And yeah all the ones avira found where false positives but it offers an option for each found thing to put it into quarantine delete and other options too..

Avira scanned around 900.000 Elements in ~1:15 Smile That's pretty good for a full system scan. Would have been faster though with a quad and ssd drive Sad

As stated previously, all these scanners suck and let atleast something go thru. As long as I dont lose any data, I can deal with formatting and re-installing. Ill stick with the free MS Essential.

Avira personal is free and doesn't let get anything trough. It's fast too. It's a pity that this happened with MS SE Sad Because I was happy with it. I had this disappointment once before when I tried out NOD32. Fucking piece of shit. Had my computer full of Trojans Sad

If usenet was not so full of trojans, I would attempt to grab the 'premium' Avira version. But since my attempt to get it will prob result in getting a virus/trojan in return - I will lay low and use MS Essentials. I can not deal with 'pop-ups' for the Free version of Avira. MW2 needs my full attention.
