Planning to buy a new soundcard? Maybe this one could be a good choice:

Though It's sad that there is no real live Dolby encoding available. And the card should have been sold as PCI express too. We all also know how Creative handles drivers, hehe.

I must say, for such a huge company they're support sucks. It makes me wonder how they have gotten as far as they have Neutral!

I totally agree. The official drivers for Windows suck damn hard. And I don't understand why they can't release the whole content of the driver disc online. BTW, have you tried the alsa drivers for linux? The difference is really noticeable.
Otherwise the card specs looks very good. It should be a good choice if you can live with the windows drivers, or are using alsa with linux. The frontpanel is also very nice.

edit:

* I added the Anandtech review. It seems to have more extensive testing.

I think its to stop OEM purchases. If they dont provide the full driver disk online people have to buy retail and by doing so creative make more cash.. It could just be to annoy those of us who hate using CD's and currently have there drives unplugged to accommidate for more SATA HDD's Wink!

As for linux, I am using the ALSA drivers. THey work great on my Audigy 1, but the support for the slightly cheaper Audigy LS (originally bought for the my dual xeon system) isn't full yet. It would be good to see that in the future but for now my xeon has the AU1 in it and is happy as can be Smile!

I think its about time I got myself a new PC, my machines just aint doing it anymore Sad!

Ehhh, no? The drivers haven't been updated since february 2004 and they're still in beta.

Quote:

* Add EAX 1.0 / 2.0 / 3.0 support
* Add AC3 Passthrough for Live (10k1-based) cards
* Add 24/96 ASIO Support for Audigy2-based boards

There isn't even EAX nor ASIO support available.
