Im looking for a new laptop that has a small factor but also decent specs. Found this laptop http://www.amazon.com/K42F-A1-14-Inch-Versatile-Entertainment-Laptop/dp/B00352LQLW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1268597244&sr=8-1
I like everything about it, except the integrated video card. I am assuming that it is 4500 HD, but cannot find a confirmation anywhere.
So I am curious, did anyone have any experience with those cards? Im not looking for gaming powerhouse (I wont be doing gaming at all), but what im curious about is, can it handle HD movies. Will I be able to watch 1080p mkvs on it? Also how about youtube hd and other stuff. Im assuming if it can play 1080ps it will have no problem playing anything else. Also, maybe some flash games (maybe even stuff like plants vs zombies, but no heavy 3d gaming).
Thanks.

4500hd does not support hw acceleration, so it all depends on which cpu laptop has

Core i3@2.2 ghz is more than capable to handle 1080p, so u are safe Wink

Alright, thanks. Though Im a bit worried. I had sony vaio with 2.23 duo core before and ati 3470 (or something similar, cant quite remember), and it struggled with 1080p movies, so i was a bit skeptical about integrated cards.

I watch 1080p videos on a simple Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66GHz. Paired with Core AVC or Divx, which are the fastest software (CPU) decoders, it is really enough.

Oh, so the decoders might be the problem then. I was using thekmplayer since it really met every requirement so far, and I really liked it.
Will try something else.
Thanks.

Please do. I didnt go too far into configuring it. The only thing i did was to select that I wanted medium quality and changed a few button layouts.

i use mpchc without any xtra decoder on a laptop with c2d@1.66ghz, not a single 1080p yet lagged even once, the once i tested, but i do watch only 720p on it, 1080p would be waste of space otherwise
i don't use kmp anymore due to image being not as sharp as in mpchc

First, lets make sure you have the latest version. Install this (version 1435) and put this EXE (version 1436 beta) in the install folder.
Now, after you've updated, run the program, go into the preferences, and click Initialize All Presets. This will reset your settings.
Now apply this; it will apply the settings I use on my laptop.

Now lets go over the more interesting settings:

First, I use Halli MKV Splitter because it is the most compatible. Both the KMP internal one and Gabest (the one in MPCHC) are deeply flawed.

Here I have disabled the internal codecs for h264 types - we'll be using CoreAVC.

Here I have added two system codecs. The AC3Filter one is optional, but is recommended. I have set both as preferred so they get used instead of others.

Here I have set CoreAVC to be used as the decoder for h264 types.

The following are optional, but recommended.

Here I have set AC3Filter to decode the usual audio types.

Laughing

You sure you aren't just using a renderer which uses artificial sharpening? Laughing

there is no visual difference between evr, evr custom or evr sync, these are the ones that produce sharper image above all the rest
in kmp i tried all renderer's and tried mpc decoder as well, yes i'm sure mpchc has sharper image quality, besides all that mpchc requires only one file to play all video and audio formats without having all kinda shit installed where kpm requires installation to work properly and weights 10x as much, plus there is a delay from opening the app itself, where mpchc is instant, no matter the config
now go mock some noob pliz or better check your vision, kthnxbye

EVR and Haali renderer use sharpening. Laughing The picture you see with VMR is how it is intended, how the decoder outputs the image. EVR is also prone to external filters as well, like those you can set in the nV/ATI CP. Disable those, then come back.

MPCHC without DXVA = ffdshow tryouts = pigslow.

no filters enabled in nv cp, core avc crappy, artifacts and lag
using ffdshow only to output 5.1 through spdif

No, VLC is very slow and has old codecs. Use either KMP or MPCHC with CoreAVC or the DivX H264 decoder (DivX is shit, but their decoder is one of the most compliant, and also almost as fast as CoreAVC - while free).
