GTFO. You come into Portal's topic to say fuck Portal 2 because you'd rather have HL2:EP3? Complain somewhere else, and FFS get over it. Portal was great, and this is even greater news. |
Who said anything about Portal not being great? GTFO yourself.

I doubt he truly meant 'FUCK PORTAL!' instead, I think they were both emphasising how much they'd prefer an announcement on EP3. I think Snake makes a good point though in saying Portal 2 could be setting us up for the events in EP3.

hell no
i want to buy portal2 and i'm not paying a dime of valve's mediocre corridor shooters
much like i had to wait for portal to hit the shelves seperately after the poopbox bundled release, which i also refused to buy

So you paid more for one game then you did for five. Poopbox indeed.
I don't expect they'll be as generous this time around.

yes, i'll happily pay more for one game i love than a bunch of useless ones
i had already finished it twice at that point so getting it was irrelevant..
it was the principle of supporting that one product over the others
i download by principle all games for personal judgement first and decide if i want to pay for it later
i have two copies of a few games with little other excuses than liking them more than they cost

personally i dont get this HL episode shit. i mean the point of episodic content is to be able to pump out short 'extra' stories quite quickly... ep 1 and 2 werent exactly prompt, and fucking episode 3 is a joke... fully fledged complete high quality SEQUELS have been produced faster.
i say fuck ep3, fuck episodic content up the ass (especially the way valve does it), and just make half life 3 already.

Originally they were supposed to release an episode every six months, that was the main selling point. Instead of working 2-3 years on HL3, we'd get new epsiodes periodically. I guess it backfired.

Who cares if they take a while to release them, they're as long as full-fledged games.

i guess they put that into practice with left 4 dead... releasing a sequel 6 months after the first one, essentially killing the first game before it could even grow
looking forward to pirating the hell out of portal 2. i have no doubt its going to be excellent, but ill be damned if valve gets any more cash outa me after that l4d bs

What L4D bs? I don't see anyone mind that Activision churns out a CoD every year with minor updates.
I love L4D2. L4D had been long dead, and it was a nice refresher and money well spent.

activision turned out games with single player campaigns and were set in 2 completely different eras. (in other words, there were, what, 2 YEARS between modern settings, and 2 years between ye-oldy timed ones)
valve released a multiplayer-only game, then released its replacement almost immediately. no way can you compare the two.
l4d had legs, it could have gone for a long time, like tf2, with content updates - as were promised. valve charged full price for an unfinished game with promises for content that they never delivered (they instead went into l4d2)
not gonna discuss that here, no point going off-topic... doesnt really matter, still never giving valve another cent after that shit.
nothing wrong with bringing out a replacement in 2 years or something, when the original has run its course, but immediately after? come on... the original still had a lot left in it, before they killed it.
all im saying, is charging FULL price for a MULTIPLAYER game, then KILLING it off the second it rolls off the line, so that you can replace it with a sequel, is a fucking douche-bag move by any standards.

We care, this episodic shit blocks HL3. I don't want the same shit with an old engine anymore, it's time for an evolution.

what you should be worried about, is if valve remains convinced that 'episodic content' is the way to go.... in that case, you can expect half life 3 to end on a cliff-hanger... and i dont mean like half life 2, i mean youll be getting 50% of the game, with the remaining 50 to be portioned out over the next 5 years...

What are you all even talking about? They said a long long time ago that they're not making HL3.
Also, L4D online was dead by the time 2 came out.

well yeah, it died when they announced l4d2, because everyone knew that valve had renegged on their promise to keep supporting it. no point playing a game with no support thats about to be replaced
also link to them saying valve isnt making hl3? is this a recent statement, or something they said 20 years ago when they promised episodes 6 months apart, which they never followed through on

HL2 Epsiodes = Half-Life 3
tho if they're gonna make a sequel they're gonna name it HL3
i can't see how EP3 will tie so many loose ends , G-Man what happens next , Breen
FFS they could make another fucking game with the cut material , whole sections like
- Air Exchange
- Citadel Core
- Weather Control
- Borealis
- Kraken Base
Another good idea would be separate epsiode made by another studio (Gearbox) and continue Opposing Force storyline .

They are still releasing updates and content for L4D. Even though there's no law that says they have to... and what kind of comment is that anyway; you play a game because you enjoy it. If you've moved on to L4D2 that's your problem, and your prerogative - but there are still people playing the original, and enjoying it.
I think I paid something like £26 for L4D2. I'd have to check about the original but I'm guessing it's around the same, but that's a great price point for a game with that amount and quality of content. Try paying £39.99 for a single console game. You make it sound like they are forcing you to buy the updated newer version and that at the same time they are ripping you off. They aren't Activision by a long stretch and maybe you should just cool your tongue because it's at odds with reality.
Episode 2 and all the other source engine games released that day were well worth waiting for. Valve all the way back to the original Half-Life take their time, they don't rush things and have always 'struggled' to meet deadlines - which is fair enough, since if they did rush things we wouldn't have gotten the original Half-Life, we'd have gotten something completely different.

All i remember about that is they admitted episodic delivering did not work. I cant remember a "no hl3" but there was a "there will be no more episodes after EP3" and i really doubt they will discontinue such a strong IP.

They would just ruin the whole series if they dragged it out for too long. I expect Ep3 to be much longer than the other 2 eps, and it will be a good way to end the series.
