Gotta say.. this looks like it could be rather enjoyable, as action/MA flicks go Very Happy

Quote:

A Young Man Who seeks revenge of his mothers death. He finds his grand-father, Heihachi Mishima, and pleas to be trained. When the Mishima leader announces a "King of Iron Fist" tournament. He finds out that his mother's killer, OGRE, will be participating in the tournament. He must fight against the worlds top competitors to achieve his goal with no interference.

Ah yes, making a movie based on fighting games with no story at all. Always a good idea.

the ONLY reason this movie is even on my radar, and the only reason im INTERESTED (not EXCITED or anything, but by contrast, not planning on ignoring a release either...) is because luke goss is in it... his fight with hellboy in the second film at the end was fucking epic... i have not seen a major american film with such an excellently choreographed fight in.. fuck.. ever? i cant think of a better fight that didnt come out of asia.

now if theyd have managed to get scott adkins, donnie yen, and ray park in it... id probably be wetting myself over it.

I wouldn't go as far as to say "very good" - but yeah, there's definitely MORE than enough back-plot to the Tekken series to make a good action/MA film out of. People always say "fighting game! Waaagh, no story!!!11" because they never bother to actually READ (wait, read? what is this new concept of which I speak? Razz) anything outside pre-rendered cutscenes.

Just like SF series, there's a TON of lore and info on it all.

ugh, problem with fighting games is if they try too HARD to incorporate and flesh out backstories, which all... lets face it... are inevitably fucking rubbish. no matter how you slice it, the backstories are not art, they are not well made, and only serve to kill films when the filmmakers try and turn them into stories.

if theyd only just focus on the fights and ACCEPT that this is the ONLY reason people want to watch these films, theyll end up with a really good film...

but no, they keep trying to feed us this bullshit backstory nonsense... thats why these films are usually piss poor.

so far id say only mortal kombat has done a half-decent movie based on a fighting game, because with andersons usual filmmaking style, its all flair with fuck all story... which worked really well.

music fucking kicked ass, too.

Sorry but it looks too cheap.

There is one rule every director should be forced to follow: If you can't have good CGI, DON'T! FUCKING DON'T!!! use it in your movie!

i think spiderman was being sarcastic... you know, like saying keanu reeves shoulda gotten an oscar for the matrix, or that sarah michelle gellar is a good looking woman, or how memento is a much better film when viewed in chronological order...

That's not Mortal Kombat. That's some random bullshit called Annihilation and, as far as the MK crowd is concerned, it doesn't exist Laughing

Seriously - that film was more offensive than Street Fighter The Movie was. *RIP Raul Julia, you poor bastard*

i genuinely liked the street fighter movie... not liked it like i like a good film, but rather like a crazy-ass-and-it-knows-it b-movie. everyone in the film NEW they were making a dumb piece of shit, so they just said fuck it and had fun with it, ESPECIALLY julia... you could see he was having a laugh. its just a pity this was his final piece of work... but anyway, i could easily enjoy it for what it was... it was laughable, but it never tried NOT to be, you know?

unlike that fucking chun-li movie that tried so fucking hard to be a good film, but the joke was that it ended up far far more unwatchable than the first one.

and yeah, annihiliation was horrible in every regard. soundtrack wasnt great, story and acting and dialog were shit, and that black dude who played jax... christ, why would they want to inflict that fucker on cinema audiences ill never know.

still... it did have 2 chicks fighting in mud in it...

also 2 of the fights were pretty good, but yeah... mud fightin chicks... Wink

No, Street Fighter was NOT enjoyable. Nothing about it was even remotely enjoyable.

well sure if you were talking about the games id agree, but nope.. the film was a fuckload of cheesy goodness. i havent seen it in a while so i cant quote scenes, but it was definately dumb fun. i dunno, perhaps you just lost your ability to enjoy films that arent serious and gritty and oscar material or something?

and why always fighting... tsk... cant we all juss get along without the hate.

anime series was fucking terrible though. i like anime, but jeez it was the worst fucking anime series ive ever seen.

Yeah, that's me honest. I believe you're thinking of the OTHER NFOhump batch of delusionals, the ones that flame and slate anything and everything - because it's not the next Schindler's List or some such bullshit. Seriously, reading this section just looks more and more like the IMDb boards.

Hahaha so true, I recently watched SF in HD, and it still hasn't lost its silly 90s charm. As serious as I like my movies, 80s and 90s silliness has a special place in my heart, especially the Arnold Schwarzenegger/Silvester Stallone/Van Damme/Steven Seagal flicks.
Sabin, for someone who enjoys Judge Dredd, it looks very strange that you don't like Street Fighter. Embarassed

I guess I was just expecting more from SF (coming from the original SF Animated Movie) and was horribly, horribly, disappointed. Whereas JD was just an awesome 90s action flick Very Happy

Once again my friend; I don't care what others say Very Happy I'm still watching (and absolutely LOVING, I might add) Heroes, remember? You lot use to rag on me about it all the time - but I don't care because Heroes is awesome and I love it ^_^

As for the comic thing? I used to read 2000AD all the time and, personally, I think the movie was damned close enough. It could have been better, but it could have been infinitely worse (see: Street Fighter Cool Face)

I guess it all comes down to fandom.. I'm a huge fan of SF, so seeing the travesty the movie was - and especially after watching the truly EPIC animated movie - I was gutted. MK was done great, on the other hand.
