There are usually screws that will allow you to take the drive. See what interface it uses. Usually they are regular SATA drives, so buying a new drive is cheap. For older interfaces, it might be more of a problem.

you assume incorrectly squirrel. i got 3 windows laptops. well had 4. but one died. mobo fried and all that shit. the one im using now is my download station. the one i was using it was for work. and the 3rd one is a netbook. good for watching porn on subway.
it's a gay acer 5570z which are the worst ever laptops. It was working so awesome and then it just went blah. So i might get it in to get fixed. Prolly the cable is loose or summin but i haven't opened a laptop in over 7 years lol. loaded a live key gonna go on fedora and see if i can access my hd. if it's that... then prolly os got erased somehow. if not then it's full out dead.
the weird thing is even the bios isn't picking up the hard drive.

That's either power related, or the drive has actually broken down completely. Replacing harddrives is easy, you can either get to it by unscrewing 2 screws on the bottom, or (like with my good old amazing Thinkpad T42) you slide it out the side which is held in place by a single screw.
