Not sure if people here are interested, but I am posting anyway. Technical Preview of the Microsoft Office 2010 suite is out, and it is great. I especially like the new "action menu" (for the lack of a better term) shown when clicking on the Office Button. It allows for some useful tasks which were a bit more problematic to find and modify in previous versions. Otherwise, it has a similar, but differently colored, Ribbon (love it or hate it). I like this Ribbon better. Also, more of the Office applications are converted to the Ribbon interface, especially Outlook 2010, so there will be more uniformity.
New "Action menu":

New Ribbon:

Finally Office comes in two variants, 32bit and 64bit, so using the 64bit version should yield a better performance when editing huge documents/presentations/spreadsheets with multiple objects.
Last but not least, when installing, an error reporting tool is also installed, which puts these icons in the taskbar:
They are used to send screenshots of good and bad stuff you encounter during your time with Office beta.

Oh come on, with the Ribbon there is so little to learn, because everything is sorted logically. The old way had everything buried in menus upon menus open dialog boxes. I can see why someone would be unhappy that he had to spend time learning all the old Office menus, but that should not come on the expense of new ways of organizing.
What you say is like "Why did MS introduce the taskbar in Windows 95, when people had learned for so long to use the Program Manager? And they don't allow to go back to the old way, that's forcing change down people's throat!"

Well, I guess there are less new things for the apps that already have Ribbon in 2007, but most of the other apps, like Outlook, Project and Visio, also have Ribbon now.

Hey, I have to ask, to all of those who are using 2010 TP. Do you have any problems with sending? I have transferred my account from old 07 to "new" 2010 and it won't send mail. It receives nice, but not sending. I've checked my SMTP and POP and they seem ok to me :S

In Outlook? Hm, no, it sends properly to my GMail account. Check if the encryption (SSL) settings have been correctly transferred from O07.

You know, the thing is everything worked fine back in 07, and my server doesn't require SSL encryption (or any for that matter), so I really can't see what's the problem... I've tried everything. I guess I'll give my ISP a nudge about this, who knows, maybe it's their fault. Thnx anyway!

My Outlook has started to pop up this message: You have 4 more days to activate Office 2010... What to do? :/
EDIT:
I've found this and so far it works...
Code: | I think I've managed to Rearm my copy of Office 2010 CTP.
dwGraceTime is a dword that holds the grace period before the software will stop working and require activation. This shows that I have 29 days 23 hours 53sec remaining now.
CODE
> GetLicensingStatus 59a52881-a989-479d-af46-f275c6370663 128a057a-7e95-4063-b2
96-c54c5f3d3f3a
SkuId = 128a057a-7e95-4063-b296-c54c5f3d3f3a
eStatus = SL_LICENSING_STATUS_IN_GRACE_PERIOD
dwGraceTime = 29D 23:53
dwTotalGraceDays = 30 days
hrReason = 4004F00C
qwExpiration = 2010/10/31
OK.
>
The nag window with running timer has gone currently, so I'll know whether it comes back or not.
All I did was basically rearm the Office timer through the Office Protection Platform cmdline interface.
Stop the Office Software Protection Platform service first.
run C:\Windows\System32\OSPPRUN.exe.
CODE
>Initialize
>Open
>GetInstalledSkuIds
0. 128a057a-7e95-4063-b296-c54c5f3d3f3a (you are interested in this one)
1. 26adec89-edf3-4adc-a3fc-c865f1a9f71f
OK.
> GetInstalledAppIds 128a057a-7e95-4063-b296-c54c5f3d3f3a
0. 59a52881-a989-479d-af46-f275c6370663
OK.
(Will Look something like this if you have 1 day remaining)
> GetLicensingStatus 59a52881-a989-479d-af46-f275c6370663 128a057a-7e95-4063-b296-c54c5f3d3f3a
SkuId = 128a057a-7e95-4063-b296-c54c5f3d3f3a
eStatus = SL_LICENSING_STATUS_IN_GRACE_PERIOD
dwGraceTime = 1D 23:37
dwTotalGraceDays = 30 days
hrReason = 4004F00C
qwExpiration = 2010/10/31
OK.
(This rearms the AppId and specific SkuId for Office 2010 you are using, I think they should be the same for all, if not just replace it with what yours returns from the command)
> Rearm 59a52881-a989-479d-af46-f275c6370663 128a057a-7e95-4063-b296-c54c5f3d3f3a 1
OK.
>close
>Initialize
>open
Should Show something like the following now if it rearmed successfully!
> GetLicensingStatus 59a52881-a989-479d-af46-f275c6370663 128a057a-7e95-4063-b296-c54c5f3d3f3a
SkuId = 128a057a-7e95-4063-b296-c54c5f3d3f3a
eStatus = SL_LICENSING_STATUS_IN_GRACE_PERIOD
dwGraceTime = 29D 23:37
dwTotalGraceDays = 30 days
hrReason = 4004F00C
qwExpiration = 2010/10/31
>quit
This command shows remaining rearms.
CODE
> GetApplicationInformation 59a52881-a989-479d-af46-f275c6370663 RemainingRearmCount
(DWORD, []) 59a52881-a989-479d-af46-f275c6370663 = 4
OK.
This shows how many rearms you have performed.
CODE
> GetApplicationInformation 59a52881-a989-479d-af46-f275c6370663 RearmCount
(DWORD, []) 59a52881-a989-479d-af46-f275c6370663 = 1
OK.
I lost my buffer logs but I'm pretty certain this is the procedure I did step by step. I've tried to explain best I can.
At the > you can type "?" for help.
I don't know if this was intentional or not, to prevent the preview being used for more than 30 days but the following is why the nag screen has appeared smile.gif
CODE
> ActivateProduct 128a057a-7e95-4063-b296-c54c5f3d3f3a
Error code hr = 0x8007232B,DNS name does not exist.
DNS entry for the activation server hostname doesn't exist on any Root DNS servers, so perhaps this was intentional smile.gif
Edit: Oops forgot to mention make sure you launch Command Prompt with Elevated Privs otherwise you will get errors that you can't perform the operation.

Does anybody has any solution to bypassing the re-arming completely? I got this:
Code: | Error code hr = 0xC004D307,The security processor reported that the maximum allowed number of re-arms has been exceeded. You must re-install the OS before trying to re-arm again. |

It wont pass validation with just a serial#. You need serial + crack to make it genuine.
