the 8800gt would be bottlenecking the new system (it's probably already limitng your current one) and by the time you finally buy a dx11 card so you can use teh powah, your system has already lost value.
do you have too much cash burning a hole in your pocket right now? if yes, go ahead and buy the new sys. if not, invest in a new, rather cheap card (gtx260 or 4870) and overclock the cpu a bit.

Upgrade ya CPU to atleast a Core2Duo E8400 (if you just play games) or a Core2Quad ummm Q9400? (for massive works/tasks) and get minimum an Nividia XFX 275GTX,that'll help for now...
The Nvidia 300GT Series are rumored to come at first quarter of 2010,probably March-April...FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUCK!! ><...and most of the actual games doesnt has DirectX11,so if you dont care about that get that sweet 275GTX ALREADY...sadly it wont price drop,so take that in mind
PS: You might also wanna buy a PSU (Power Supply Unit) of about 700W..Try a Thermaltake Toughpower 700W MODULAR,that should help
ASUS X570 TUF GAMING PLUS, 32GB DDR4@2666 ,RYZEN 5800X3D (NO OC),GIGABYTE RTX 4070 Super GAMING OC, Western Digital Blue 4TB 5400RPM + SAMSUNG 860 EVO 500+1TB GB SSDs , OEM SATA DVD 22xNoctua NH-D15 Chromax Black, BenQ XL2420T Case: Be Quiet! DARK BASE PRO 901. PSU CORSAIR RM1200 SHIFT

thanks for the advice, since im an alien fan i want to play the new avp game in its full glory, so dx10 is a no go for me. (thats it im a graphics whore, but hey, its my opininion, on the other hand i understand people who dont mind bad graphics)
why do you recommend core 2 quad and not the i5? and why do you think 275gtx wont drop price? im not arguing im just curious.

I upgraded my e7200 to a q9550 and went from 2 to 4GB of RAM and I believe it's running at DDR2, I just don't get why my FSB seems to be running at less than the specs say the CPU can run at which is 1333FSB I believe.
I would say wait as mentioned above, and get atleast an i7 or else you won't notice a big difference. There are hardly any leaps and bounds anymore in hardware upgrades so unless you make big upgrades you won't hardly notice any difference at all.
When I upgraded my e7200 to the q9550 the Windows Experience score went from 6.0 to 7.9. Quite a difference but then again I went from 3MB L2 Cache to 12MB L2 Cache which probably has a lot to do w/ the increased score.
Can anyone offer any advice to get my CPU running at 1300 or 1333FSB which the CPU is rated at, or is this limited by my motherboard?

I'm guessing the price won't drop until after the next line of video cards from Nvidia are released and the one after that. Meaning a year or two from now the 2xx GT/X line won't drop in price.

if you decide to upgrade and you use your rig for gaming, there is simply no reason to go dual core anymore, games do use quadcores now and the price difference between equal clocked dual cores and quadcores has gone down by alot

My mobo asusp5b wasnt designed with overclocking in mind.

That's such a gross oversimplification, and for most cases, not even true. In order to effectively use 4 concurrent threads, even in UE3, you have to write it properly. Most games rarely even use two cores effectively. Perhaps you mean the engine supports it, which is all very well, but it's like saying every UE3 game supports DX11 features, because the engine supports it.

Your current CPU is fine for the moment, especially if you OC it a bit.
At 1900x1200 you'll cap your 8800GT, so a GPU upgrade would be in order. 5850 would be your poison, but in most countries you'll have to wait until after new years to get one due to production issues

ehehe, no, didn't mean it in that way, i was making a point that 4 cores for gaming is a still, and probably for a very long time will be, an overkill
that e6400 is more than enough for gaming, just needs a proper cooler and overclocking.

Haha, all of those games certainly don't need quad to run fine,, seriously, Blood Rayne 2 ? Source games ? Company of Heroes ?
I can play them ultrasmooth, no sweat. c2d e8400 here. The only game that ran better on quad was Red Faction, right ? But still, it was buggy. Did it get patched btw ? It ran faster than normal for me, lol.

i think buying a dx10 card (or dx10.1 to be exact) is just a waste of money, dx11 is gonna show up soon. Why should i go for the 275gtx (for example)?
and for example, looking at tomshardware.com's cpu chart (2009) i see the i5 at the top of the list while my e6400 is nowhere. a 8400 is all i can see at the bottom of the list.

Actually the e8400 was a rehash of e6400, as far as I remember. Just like the Q9550 is supposed to be a replacement at the same price-tag for the q6600. The entire x6x00 line is no longer in production for budget reasons (the e8x00 and the q9550 are much cheaper for Intel to make, but sell them at the same price range they sold the previous models). That doesn't mean they are exactly similar or better. For instance, the older q6600 (quad core) is much better for overclocking, even if at stock the q9550 might outperform it.
