What you linked to (Accidentally I guess.) is a older star-force driver version, use that and replace the files, alter that registry location value (Windows 7 preferred.) and it'll read like you have Windows 7 SP1, SF drivers (That version you downloaded.) will be fooled by this and the game will start.

Found out how to modify the text data but will need to download Xenus 2 first. Razz
(Used by their little editor and SDK in order to function, bit of a bother, by the way there's a babelfish translation of that title on GCW.)

Worlds roughest translation job:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U86EABIK

Due to how the editor (Xenus 2 QRE) works I only managed to do the various game menus and related "strings", actual game translation is stored somewhere else and this editor isn't fully working with these new engine revisions though it worked OK'ish for the game menus.

As it's via Google translation I did hand-tweak the lines that made sense after translation but most of it is a bit all over in terms of quality like "Quit" becoming "Output" in the main menu and the difficulty levels being "Light, medium and heavy" Very Happy

It'll do for now though.

EDIT: As for the game it feels like Mikael Myers (Or what his name was, Boiling Point hero.) went to space and enlisted to kill aliens, bit of a mix between Starship Troopers and Boiling Point so far, quite difficult as well but very complex as well from what I've seen, would need a better translation to understand everything though. Very Happy
(Some lines aren't subtitled either which is also problematic.)

This quite a big bump, but I suppose it's worth it. So, I was chatting a few days ago with a hungarian guy who's translating Xenus 2 to his language: according to him, in both games (Xenus II and Precursors) there actually IS english text and he told me that almost everything is translated, but the developers hid it due to the release being russian only.

So there maybe be actually a way to translate the game into english. He hinted someone could use the QRE (editor) to see if it's possible to copy/paste english text over the russian one. I'm definately going to see if it's possible - The Precursors looks awesome and I've been dreaming for a game of this kind for more years than I can remember.

Last I heard the company had some problems, Xenus 2 for example hasn't been released outside eastern Europe.
(There are a few fan translations but very early versions, nothing for this game though as far as I know.)

Don't expect much. Game got trashed by AG.RU review with 37% reviewer score and 51% user score.

Short summary:
- Much worse than Xenus 2
- Stupid quests ala escort a drunk head to his home
- Weak text and dialogs
- Forced "To be continued" ending
- Space sim part is very primitive and mostly an arcade shoot em up
- Trading is useless and random escort / attack missions are all alike and unprofitable
- Free roaming space exploration is pointless as there is nothing to explore - only the same copy & paste asteroid fields and space stations
- Low variations of NPC faces(~10), even plot NPCs share faces with common NPCs

And from the latest comments to the review game is still unstable with latest patches.

Aww Sad

But then... most people (and reviews especially) hated Boiling Point (Xenus 1) while I absolutely ADORE it. One of my favourite games in fact. Also, from what I've played with the INCREDIBAD Babelfish translation of Xenus 2 -- that looked just as much, if not more, fun than the first Xenus game.

GREAT news regarding both White Gold and The Precursors - looks like those guys over at the Deep Shadows forum managed to finally import all the english text.

Just as a little note are you using a ATI or NVIDIA card Sabin, Xenus engine or what it's called has some pretty annoying issues with ATI in particular with Xenus 2 resulting in rather bad framerate and visual bugs and artifacts, particularly with the bloom and HDR.
(Less noticeable in Precursors but I only ever played the intro sequences of either, both having the latest available updates available by then though it seems there hasn't been any other patch progress in the meantime and driver improvements aren't really going to happen unless the titles get a official international publisher and release, recent Catalyst like 10.5/10.5a might have improved stuff a bit in general though, unsure.)

I'm running an ATi board, but luckily I don't *recall* having any issues when I tested out Xenus 2 with the old babelfish translation. Do you own both copies retail? If not, how did you apply the latest patches - at the time?

DT Pro and clone mini-images, come to think of it that might have been 1.01 and not the recent 1.1 larger update.

I re-downloaded both and will try them again when I have the time for it (Things are a bit chaotic and hectic at the moment.), might have changed since what I experienced with the games initially.

Ick... I see what you mean about issues with Xenus 2. There's a shit-ton of bloom all over the place, as well as a constant "flicker" on the screen, no matter what detail settings I choose. Not to mention lame performance issues Sad 1680, no vsync, no AA, Highest settings; 32-60 though usually in the mid 40s.

I'm using Cat 10.5s on my 4870.

Well precursors seems to work just fine,no problems whatsoever and the translation is actually quite good. Will finally be able to play it properly. Smile

Too bad I haven't had success with the 1.1 patch...yet anyway.

I've not yet finished DLing Precursors, but I'm definitely looking forward to it. Xenus 2 looks like it could be great fun, but yeah... definitely needs a patch or ten >_>
