I've started to learn German in elementary school, for 5 yrs, and than in high school for 4 yrs...And I don't know squat! Plus I hate it from the depths of my soul  All those rules and stuff... meh...

I never did quite get why do I need to know all those rules, and we didn't do that much talking (teacher would usually talk with the ones who understood her, the rest had blank stare in their eyes  ). I had a friend who talked German like he was from Germany, but he could barely get D on tests. He didn't know how to write and stuff... But if you dropped him and me somewhere in Germany he would find his way out pretty soon, while I would just try to get directions on English

It's Kartoffel Erdapfel isn't commonly used. The french may say it because it's pommes de terre for them

look at it this way. at least you're not learning english. you want rules and exceptions n shit to follow.. jeez... english has to be the most batshit backwards fucked up language in existence. you can learn it for15 years straight and still not have a handle on it.
germans a good language. it makes you sound angry and like ur about to rip someones fucking arms off, even when you're talking about what a wonderful day you're having... its brilliant. not like chinese or something, where you could be cursing someone out and youd still sound like a helium huffing ewok talking about how nice a flower smells...

You think German is bad? Try learning Arabic in two flavors (phonetic vs. literary  ) from a teacher with a thick Russian accent.
