|
 |
I have an old Dell laptop D400 here with a 1.4Ghz Pentium M in it. The problem is that the multiplier is stuck at 6x, so the CPU is stuck at 600Mhz. I tried changing power saving profiles and I also disabled speedstep in the BIOS, it doesn't help. I installed Rightmark CPU clock utility, it seems the CPU doesn't get enough power. Apparently the current VID is 0.95V, 1.4Ghz needs 1.48 according to the app. I looked in the BIOS, there are no options to lower or up the Vcore. I'm lost here. How do I get it unstuck? The multiplier doesn't move an inch, it needs to get to 14x. A reasonably fast laptop runs like shit atm.
Edit: correction, 1.48 is what the CPU can take. It's not what's needed for 1.4Ghz.

As far as I know, Dell locks it's bios multipliers. That's why if you want to overclock you don't buy Dell. Maybe if you find a new bios or smth you'd be able to unlock it... so good luck.

Strange, flash new BIOS or reflash the same. Reset all options to default or something.

Have you tried Notebook Hardware Control? That's the app my wife uses on her Dell laptop in order to force the machine to run at full speed.

Notebook HC worked, thanks. I still can't lock it at 14x, but atleast it jumps to 14x when it's needed now.
