My brother still uses win98 because he thinks that the nsa backdoor in xp is too dangerous... ... ... And he says that he is immune against dangers from the web, because win 98 is alot safer Laughing

Oh and he has that nice skinning software that let's his win98 look like xp or vista

there is also a "revolution pack" for windows 98 to put skins on it, so really xp is not needed, i mean what for, its so bloated, it works so slow on pentium 133, but windows 98 is so optimized it works so fast and no bloat like ntfs and user management and task manager and security and all that unnecessary crap!!!

As for explorer being .NET, well here is a disassembly of my explorer.exe EP:

Code:
00DB71B3 > $ E8 FFFEFFFF    CALL explorer.00DB70B7
00DB71B8   . 6A 5C          PUSH 5C
00DB71BA   . 68 D072DB00    PUSH explorer.00DB72D0
00DB71BF   . E8 581A0000    CALL explorer.00DB8C1C
00DB71C4   . 33DB           XOR EBX,EBX
00DB71C6   . 895D E4        MOV DWORD PTR SS:[EBP-1C],EBX
00DB71C9   . 895D FC        MOV DWORD PTR SS:[EBP-4],EBX
00DB71CC   . 8D45 94        LEA EAX,DWORD PTR SS:[EBP-6C]
00DB71CF   . 50             PUSH EAX                                      ; /pStartupinfo
00DB71D0   . FF15 1412D900  CALL DWORD PTR DS:[<&KERNEL32.GetStartupInfoW>; \GetStartupInfoW
00DB71D6   . C745 FC FEFFFF>MOV DWORD PTR SS:[EBP-4],-2
00DB71DD   . C745 FC 010000>MOV DWORD PTR SS:[EBP-4],1
00DB71E4   . 64:A1 18000000 MOV EAX,DWORD PTR FS:[18]
00DB71EA   . 8B70 04        MOV ESI,DWORD PTR DS:[EAX+4]
00DB71ED   . 895D E0        MOV DWORD PTR SS:[EBP-20],EBX
00DB71F0   . BF 24D8DF00    MOV EDI,explorer.00DFD824
00DB71F5   > 53             PUSH EBX
00DB71F6   . 56             PUSH ESI
00DB71F7   . 57             PUSH EDI
00DB71F8   . FF15 D810D900  CALL DWORD PTR DS:[<&KERNEL32.InterlockedComp>;  kernel32.InterlockedCompareExchange
00DB71FE   . 3BC3           CMP EAX,EBX
00DB7200   . 0F85 C5960100  JNZ explorer.00DD08CB
00DB7206   . 33F6           XOR ESI,ESI
00DB7208   . 46             INC ESI
00DB7209   > A1 34D1DF00    MOV EAX,DWORD PTR DS:[DFD134]
00DB720E   . 3BC6           CMP EAX,ESI
00DB7210   . 0F84 D4960100  JE explorer.00DD08EA

That doesn't look like IL code now, does it? Very Happy

And there is no COM header:

Code:
00D901C8   00000000     DD 00000000          ;  COM+ Runtime Header address = 0
00D901CC   00000000     DD 00000000          ;  Import Address Table size = 0

Conclusion: not a bit of .NET, AT ALL!

PS This is the first time in my life that I see a relocatable .exe that is not .NET Smile

I miss my 1512 Sad At the time I only had four games for it; Ford Driving Simulator, Commander Keen 1, Commander Keen 2 and The Bard's Tale (hey, it was only an 8086 Laughing) - and the OS (DOS and GEM) had to be run from one of the two 5" floppy bays, but it was my baby!

... I was 10. The following year I built my first comp out of an old IBM PS/2 server tower. 80286 with eleven megs of RAM! Very Happy

Nein! Never worked with one. Only relocatable exes I've seen til now were .NET ones. Everything else was C++/Delphi/ASM and those are all at 00400000.
