NBA 2k10 will be king,
played NHL 10, I doubt now that NHL 2k10 can overcome it, despite very promising early information

NHL.2K10.XBOX360-MARVEL
I doubt it is worth a verb, but anyone who plays it please give me your thoughts

Played for a bit and just dont like the flow. Plus I love watching nice plays after the whistle, there are only replays between periods and after the goal which pretty much destroys the presentation.
I loved how they showed plays and were talking about players in NFL 2k5. Even NHL 10 is much better in this sense.
There are some new modes like pond hockey but whos gonna play that for more than once... Im enjoying BAP in EAs NHL so a lack of Pro career is a big turn off for me. Franchise is there but there is really nothing different, no feeling. Its just like one friendly after another.
The only thing that seems pretty good is the AI , they seem to be dumping the puck when they should, no stupid passing back and forth like in NHL 10. Animations still seem weird, players no longer look like a stick when skating without speed burst but its not great either.

Well I've just tried it on the PS3. Let me just preface this by saying it's the same old (next-gen) shit with bad goalkeeping, defending, animations and so on - but for the first time in a long time they've seemingly got the controls balanced so it actually feels nice to control. Not great by any means, but I can finally see myself investing time in PES on a next-gen console, and that's a start... if a little too late.
If you're like me and have been waiting for a PES that had the 'feel' of the old PES games on the next-gen then this is the closest it has gotten. Otherwise it's basically the same old shit... but for me I am moderately happy.
I will spend more time with this than FIFA, even though FIFA is going in the right direction whilst PES is still languishing behind.

So essentially it's a little bit better than last years shit, Fifa 10 is better, but you still will spend more time on this one?
Downloading as we speak and will get back with some comments on it. I was a die hard PES fan before FIFA 08. Fifa 09 was better and Fifa 10 deals with a lot of the problems 09 had (goalies too good, ball glued to the feet, 90% of the goals are scored 1 on 1 with keeper, slow ball handling). I think Fifa 10 looks great, can't wait fpr the final game.

I said something similar elsewhere, the new PES just feels like PES 6 (which is in no way a bad thing) but slightly clunkier. It seems slightly better but I still don't think I'll be buying it, FIFA is just a better and more fun game to play.
Really hope they get their act together and get a next-gen version that's as good as the old PS2 ones, looks like i'll be giving it a miss for another year though.

I could reel off a list of negatives for PES but that would belie the fact I can spend months playing through the master leagues, whiling away the hours. I'm not saying I won't play FIFA, or that it's not as good, or whatever, but I don't find their singleplayer portion as rewarding or captivating. I never have. So even when PES was unbelievably bad, I didn't really play FIFA for anything other than its multiplayer.
Horses for courses - but I think PES fans should be happy with this assuming they didn't stick it out with 2008 and 2009, which I largely passed on after the first few games.
*interesting that you came in at FIFA around the same time as me as well |
I get what you are saying. For me I just want as much realism (as in trying to be as close to the real thing) as possible. That used to be Pro evo, now it's fifa. Tried Pro evo last night and while it's not all that bad it feels very arcade like still. Ball handling is far from the real thing and it is WAY too easy to get a 1 on 1 vs goalie. Still missing any kind of strategy in how AI reacts defensively, it is unbelievably bad at times tbh.
One thing that is a lot better than fifa (and has been so for a while now) is the artist work on the players. Fifa is really bad in that regard. Hope Konami can get their act together but I doubt they will reach fifa for a few years. They just don't have the same resources.
It's kinda funnty. I introduced all my football playing friends to PES during it's glory days and told them to stop playing the EA franchise which sucked ass at the time. Pes was still pretty unknown since they did not really use any marketing. Now they are all pro evo fans and I am trying to "win them over" to Fifa again , but it takes time and the Fifa-barrier is hard to cross for some die hard football fans.. People don't like changes I guess .

Realism is important to me as well, but I don't think the two games have anything between them really. I'd say PES is still top in some key areas, if not all (such as goalkeeping and defensive positioning, which at times strikes me as intentionally cheating to make it easier for the CPU).
FIFA doesn't do a good job of differentiating between different players attributes or styles for example, they never have. When I play with a team in PES I feel like it's a team comprised of unique individuals, with strong areas, weak areas, and specialised areas... whereas in FIFA I'm merely playing as Barcelona or Aston Villa, and the differences between them are negligible. The only attribute that has genuine significance in FIFA is stamina.
The act of defending also is more realistically portrayed in PES, so long as you can forgive (or circumvent) the appalling positioning. You can also work the ball in the air with PES, whereas with FIFA it's a lottery that either works, or doesn't.
On the other hand FIFA has a much more fluid and realistic movement with the ball, it feels less like a game of scaletrix when the ball is on the ground, and the goalkeepers are better in terms of positioning and responses (etc, etc). But in the end you go with what you enjoy, and I personally now enjoy both! Still, I played practically every single FIFA (including its manager games) from inception, on the PC/MegaDrive/SNES... so it's not a change for me

They've taken so many steps backwards that I think they've only just reached their starting position... but we'll see. I'm not confident either.

+1
I agree with you. There are pro's and con's for each game. I can see myself spending time with both, probably more with FIFA 10 due to the fact that FIFA has the better multiplayer component. Unless of course PES2010 has gone through a massive online overhaul, which i doubt it will have as Konami seem to be doing little things each year rather than doing everything at once.

There is an nba 2k10 file being uploaded to Usenet here http://newzleech.com/?p=7754347
It's not done being uploaded but I downloaded the first rar part and opened it and the nba 2k10 iso file that is inside will be 7,838,695,424 bytes which is the exact same size as all other 360 games. Will update when its completed uploading and I have it.

currently no nuke, so I guess it might be retail
bearing in mind that timestamp is from Sep 5th and launch party was somewhere last week and retail disks were given as presents, it should be ok
