The past few years have all been passing by for me. I haven't been studying properly at all and keep doing the worst things at the worst times (playing games just a few hours before exams) and as a result getting crap marks and having to give the maths paper again. What pisses me off is that I think the computer has taken over my life and I am hardly giving time to anything else at all. Then the worst part is the fact that I don't care even though I should for my marks and ironically I am going to graduate in the computer field next year.

Not worrying for the consequences of all my actions is making me feel disappointed in myself and the worst thing is that some people have said to me that "you have infinite potential and yet you're not living up to it..." . I just don't know how to give up the computer.. its killing everything in my life and I'm slowly losing myself in it.......

1 and 2 are still amazing.

Interesting, I was in a similar phase around er 14-16 or some age like that. I was hooked to online gaming (mainly counterstrike) and I didn't really care about education. Needless to say I screwed up my exams and I had to do an additional year to make up the grades. But the benefit from that extra year was so good it prepared me for my A-levels and degree.

What I'm saying is sometimes once you've screwed up it can really throw things into prospective, unless you're a dumbass then it doesn't : )

Well i studied more than ok. And i was in a student club, going out regularly, going on holidays and trips etc (you know, regular student life.).

I graduated 1 year ago and started working and now my life has become utterly boring (50h weeks puuuuuure boredom job), my gf (which i was living together with) left me and i see my friends from the past like once a month.

Try doing an biotech-IT related PhD when you have 0euro budget, see your boss 1h a month and have no short or long term goals. Just go with the flow, figuring boring shit out yourself. I am dying of boredom. I figured out research aint my cup of tea. Too bad i spent nearly 10 years studying my ass of to get my diploma...

Just to say, education aint the magic word, just keep yourself entertained and happy. Having good education and a $$$ job aint going to fix that. I'd happily give up 20-30% of my salary to have a challenging job. Too bad i have no clue what i want to do as a job.

I did the same. But after I met my girl I had to change some things to get a regular living from what I do. And taking my chance at ibm and doing this internship really changed my whole perspective on so many things. Being successful at work will make you more selfconfident and you'll be able to get away from the "I need computerentertainment to be happy" feeling.

You sound like me.. Are you living alone? I was .. until recently.. alone (hence my gf left me since i was on the computer all fucking day long), not caring about college and eventually dropped out (careful there Sad) and had no interest what so ever to do or care about anything not related to my computer..
Again.. all this just because i was living alone.. it's not the fact that i had no one tell me to change something with my life - i wouldnt change anyway - who ever listen to others?! but i was away from all the agitation, the excitement, the energy of anyone with a so called normal life.
Now that i've came back home and i'm surrounded by people with a job, with things to do and things to care about; everyone making his way through life BUT me.. it made me envious, made me actually want to catch up, leave this imaginary world behind and fucking do something; otherwise its like i'm not even living on this earth.
So yeah.. gotta start college again and fucking catch up.. 25 now.. 7 years wasted..

I dont regret it THAT much tho..

That is a big problem. I once heard someone say "Why don't you do it now?" It applies for a loooooot of things and it eventually makes you happy. What makes someone happy? Accomplishing things, making and reaching goals.

So set a goal and reach it. And there is a time for everything yes, but you have the opportunity now, so do it now. You never know what might happen in the future and you might regret that you did not do it.

@pistolshrimp: no

@FireMaster: True, but it has to be done at some point

@moosenoodles: no no no

@AnimalMother: says you... lol

@lhzr: lol ...

@_zet: Something similar has happened which has made me rethink what I am doing...

@spankie: Very insightful... I will carefully choose what to do and make a rough road map so that I would not be stuck in job which is boring.

@PumpAction: I am trying to get an internship... what you said makes sense.

@Vikerness: No, my family is there but like you said, they can only tell you what to do the rest is up to you so yeah.. Damn, I'm sorry to hear that but what you said makes me wonder if I don't stop now I might end up in a place I might never get out of. Thank you for sharing.

@Nailbiter: Not everyone ... people who are blissfully unaware about the latest tech and are buried in the syllabus books have no problem getting ahead of the class.

@spankie: Goal setting is something which I've never tried to do along with time management. People who do both make me feel envious of them.

@dominae: I don't want to be in the mediocre zone hence the introspection

@Reg67: No, it never does

@Vikerness: You know, that is so true. If you can't look at the mirror then that means you are doing something wrong with which you are ashamed.

1 and 2 are still amazing.

About this.. i still feel that all this tech thingie has to be experienced by everyone.. Talking about games.. they are great - but with every form of addiction.. there's a thin line between fun and pathetic.. for example.. still playing with my steering wheel while all my friends are driving real cars.. personally i've crossed that line a little bit too much..
And beside feeling pathetic there are many other things (regrets for the time wasted, having no accomplishments, fearing the future) that should add up and help you get back on the track.. dont ignore them man..

twitter overload!!!!

life is what you make of it.
you sit on your ass and do shit... you won't do shit
you get out... meet people... have fun... your life will be pretty good.

simple.
mediocrity is bull shit. everyone is different.
if you love what you're doing, it shows.
some people who play wow are fascinating.
some people who race cars can be fascinating.
doesn't mean a certain set life style will suit you.
you can't run around beating people with bats and then laughing at their chipped teeth stuck to your bat...
but you can find something that'll do you good.

you just got bored with your current life.
simple.

doesn't mean you should be depressed. or anything.
you've been doing comp tech bull shit for a while and you got bored.
i took engineering. then biology. then programming. then english lit. and now i'm doing film editing. I'll prolly get bored of it like i ddi with others and forget half the shit when i move on to the next.

it's hard finding what you like. right now i'm happy.
I meet people every day. I drink every other day.
I stopped doing drugs. I'm in a good space right now.
Even though I'm sort of somewhat single...

If you're going to graduate... soon... finish it.
Suffer through it. Then do something different.
Try something different. Fuck...

Best thing for me... that's really relaxing is going fishing or going camping or going anywhere and just turning off your phone and staying away from any contact for a couple days. Reflect on shit. Enjoy yourself. And figure out what exactly it is you want to do.

This is one of the worst ideas. What if somebody were to call because of an emergency? doing something like this will drive other people insane and probably generate a lot of hate

lol wut??? maybe in orange county or las vegas or los angeles.
but in normal towns where the world isn't surrounded by a phone... it's perfectly normal...
you let people know where you go... if you don't thats damn stupid and it's a bad idea...
but if you keep your phone off...
no one can bother you
no one can hassle you
no one can piss you off

if you're relaxing...
last thing you need is some twat txting you telling you she got her period and she's mad at her cat for eating all the biscuits...

real super duper emergencys... yes
but they come once in a blue moon
and most likely if you got away for three weeks... yes keep your phone on
but for a day or two...
fuck...

people take time to die... lol

Ey TC. you should not give advice to anyone, you cannot manage your own life. You really think you are that important that people cannot miss you for 2 days? And People going insane because they cannot reach you is there fucking problem, so why give a fuck?

I was a month in the Alps this summer, climbing mountains and i had like 20 missed phones from my boss. Do you really think i give a fuck? I have the right to be alone and turn of my phone, especially on holiday in the mountains where there is absolutley nothing i can do, even if i want to.

And people going insane because i do not answer, really i could not care less. No wonder you are a freak. You care way too much about what other people think instead of doing your own thing.

I remeber John Frusciante, red hot chilli peppers guitar player, talking about his junkie days when he was doing nothing but pumping drugs in his veins fora a few years, he basically said he wasn't one of those depressed junkies that wanted to quit but couldn't, he was a happy junkie and he doesn't regret it, he had a good time until of course he had enough, I think his friends intervened and he got help but again no regrets about it.
