A lad I know (just 20 years old) committed suicide in the early hours of Saturday morning.

I am genuinely stumped as to how someone can be so disconnected from life that they can take their own life.. he was young, intelligent, had a good job, a good photography skillset as a hobby.. a lot going for him, and a really nice kid to boot. I had no idea that inside he was troubled enough to do this. Everyone I know is in shock and especially his family.

He was always fun, friendly, had a great sense of humor and a true class clown type his whole life. Now hes just gone Sad no suicide note, no apparent reason behind it, just a noose and a staircase..

What can bring someone to do this? I guess I don't really know what to say, just baffling Neutral Sad

I live in little brady bunch town, nothing bad ever happens, a kid I grew up with for 15 years never an ounce of violence just murdered an elderly couple of the street from us, they found the weapon in his house and the mom is going away for trying to destroy the evidence.

I grew up with him, and now he's in prison. The fucked up thing is the elderly couple he murderd, there dog escaped some years back and we ended up taking care of it till one day they came knocking on doors asking if we've seen there dog and we had it.

Well maybe he was just fed up with everything that was going on in his life at the moment. Like you said you don't know what was going on with him.

I said that I'm gonna kill myself sometimes around age of 70. You start to get old (that smell is just creeping me out), your body starts falling apart, everything is hard to do etc...

Some say that committing suicide is the easy way out. I, for one, disagree with that. If you see that everything is going down the drain (and that there's no way out), or you think that you have nothing to do with yourself, then you can take your life. It is yours, and you can do what you want with it. The same is with drug abuse. If you decide to take drugs then you will have to suffer the most.

Sure, you'll say: but what about those around him that loved him and cared about him? Well as I see it, once you're dead you can't feel anymore, so this doesn't affect you. That is, ultimately, the reason one doesn't take his life: because of others. We are learned since our birth to be "social creatures", to care, empathize. And the feeling of loneliness is something that so depresses us that we don't want to be cause of that feeling for others...

Life is a complicated thing, that is certain, just like death is certain.

Sad stuff. We had three kids commit suicide in my former high school this June, 2 weeks before graduation, one after another. I knew 2 of them very well, we sat together for 3 years. One I could understand offing himself, his father and mother both beat him regularly and he couldn't fight back, he was so small. The other had it all, got into Stanford on Business, with 50% paid by scholarship.... who wouldn't want that? He threw himself under a train. Don't understand it at all.

Sounds like either drugs or some spontaneous mental act :/ Sad stuff like that can happen.

So whats his statement? Or does he even remember doing it?

Some people are just that unhappy. I think sometimes people find themselves stuck in place where they can't see a way out. Maybe he stopped seeing all this good stuff you saw in him, and focused on the negitive in his life.

Could be because of a girl, one guy blew himself with a grenade because of a girl, my friend found a piece of his ear in his garden the next day.

Anyway you just don't know, everything can look shiny and perfect on the outside we all wear masks during our daily incounters with society, but on the inside he could be a broken shell of a man.

He doesn't need your pity.

Absolutely right. Fuck anyone who says otherwise. The only thing that you ever truly own is your own life. If you want to end it, that is your choice and yours alone.

People who say "oh they take the easy way out" are ignorant.

I don't get why people have this attitude. It must be the hardest fucking thing to ever do in life, to kill youself goes against all natural instinct that a person has. I have heard my friends comment in films, when they see someone about to drown they will make a comment like "i would just give up" ... well fuck that! I would fight till my very last breath! I think that people who think its an easy way out, to kill themselfs, they are in fact the weak ones.

NOT. WTF.. not suiciding, living years and years in pain just to not hurt the ones around you? To not hurt the ones that pushed you there in the first place? On the contrary, I would call selfish the ones that asks you to live for them and judge you if you don't. You want to die? Go ahead. Die, it's your life you're ending. I wouldn't call it anything else, neither selfish nor easy, it's just death, everyone's gonna die sooner or later.

I had depression so fucking bad at one point in my life. I thought there was something seriously wrong with me and i felt like i was going to die, the symptoms were physical, i was scared to go to sleep the one night because i thought i wouldn't wake up. As i said, killing yourself must be the hardest thing anyone can do.

I'd say, how you commit suicide, is what makes it selfish or not. Just doing it, without even writing a note or anything to let people know why you did it, is selfish imo.

i guess the selfish thing is more of a perspective issue. i had a good friend who gassed himself with his car in' 95. he was bright and had a good future ahead of him. he left a note that basically said everything he did was an act. he felt like a performer and that his life was fake. it's hard to say exactly how it came to be, because only he would know, but i guess everything just kind of came together at the wrong/right time, however you want to call it.

it comes down to the person too. for the past 4 years i've been one of those people where if something can go wrong for you, it will and normally does at the worst possible time. i'm stuck in a dead end job with no chance to climb the ranks because there are none. actually i'm the only employee right now. i've been trying to morph it from one business type into another but my location on this mudball is greatly hindering that. and it's not as easy as just saying move somewhere else. if it was that easy to pick up and take off everyone would do it constantly because we all get tired of seeing the same crap over and over.

it seems like my boss hates me. customers are falling off left and right because of the wonderful situation bush left us in. my dad may have cancer. my wife's father DOES have cancer and it's probably terminal. my mom is going crazy. my brother is lazy and won't work which puts more strain on my folks. it seems every day is just a series of aggravations. i have a few non-serious medical issues myself that need tending but i can't go to the doctor because if i close up, i lose business for the time closed and possibly even more as a long term result.

am i going to kill myself? no - some days i would sure like to end it all though because it gets very aggravating to say the least. so i think it comes down to the person. everyone has a breaking point and once you reach it, maybe depending on the person depends on how they handle it. i feel like i'm at mine and as i said, i'm not suicidal but boy am i sick of this shit!
