Performance is similar imo. Patches increased performance slightly, but don't expect 60fps if you had 30fps with unpatched game. You'll gain a few FPS at most by installing the latest patch (and that's mostly because patches just added more stuff to turn off in graphics).

Performance for me is pretty much the same - bad. Patches or not, this game needs quad probably to work well even on medium-low. At first I hoped for some improvements with the patches, but it didn't happen...I stopped playing after ~20 hours because the stuttering just killed me.
i7 6700k @ 4.4 GHZ, 2060s, 16 GB RAM, SSD, Windows 10x64.

^lol? medium range? that's a high end CPU & GFX if its purpose is mainly gaming.
it's only medium range if you suffer from OCD and always need top of the line stuff

I'd say this is bullshit. They are high end, everything above is for enthusiasts and not needed for decent gaming at the moment. As long there is still a 360 and PS3, it will stay like this. Everyone can take a dumb on those handfull of games which wont run 30+fps... also they suck imo... look at ArmA2 for example.

Is it possible to change the controls for the xbox360 controller ?
The only thing I can do in a chopper is to ascend, descent and rotate camera.

You can choose "Classic" or "something else I can't remember the name of" and that's about it.
They're both predefined profiles but.

I think I've tried them both, but it doesn't seem to bind the controls for flying a helicopter.
The Right Stick controls camera.
The left stick doesnt do shit.
The D-Pad controls the mobile n stuff.
LB turns the chopper to the left. RB brings the crosshair.
LT & RT control ascend and descend.
Dunno what the hell is wrong....

I can't complete the fkn game, cause of a bug I'm experiencing.
I don't think the game recognises my xbox360 controller. The right stick doesnt work when on foot. The left stick doesn't work when in a helicopter.
I have tried to make do up until now.
In the last mission "Out of Commission", where you jump off the jetty from your dirtbike and grab onto the helicopter. It tells me to press Space repeatedly. But when I press Space, the only thing that happens is that the camera dances around.
I have tried this 5 times now both with the keyboard and pressing the A button on the controller.
HEEEEEEEEEELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Install FRAPS and press record when you jump into the helicopter. After that press Space couple of times and you're into the heli  I had the same problem as yours (tried 50 times the mission, changed drivers and keyboards, etc) and this was the only thing that worked after spending 2 weeks on forums. Hope it helps.

So finished the game.
Liked it, they tried to go for realism and shit, but there wasn't any overthetop fun shit to do.
Now this begs the question, should I play Saints Row 2 ?
I have a Q9550, GTX 260, 3GB Ram, Xbox360 controller.
Will I get a reasonable performance or will it still play shite ?
