Hi i got this HP laptop model 6160ea
it has 2X512mb ram....can remove and add 2x2gb ?
dunno why but official hp site says MAX is 2gb....question is how? the MB does not support more then 2 gb or they say it cuz it comes with 32bit windows xp..?
With laptops it is dependent on the motherboard, so yes, it could be that your motherboard supports only 2GB of RAM max. You should find out what motherboard the laptop has and Google it, usually there are forums with people who have asked this, and experts post more educated explanation as to why the motherboard supports this and that only.
Wow sorry to bump this one up....but i have 1 more question
first off i added 1 stick of 2gb and 1 stick of 1gb and it works...shows 3gb...good
now the new question...
i replaced my hdd (60gb 5400rpm) with 200gb 7200rpm...all works but im a bit worried that this laptop is not designed to work with 7200rpm...over heat or insufficient power?
dunno...
well the 7200 will consume more power, but not use higher current, so it shouldn't be an issue, besides lower battery life
Doesn't have to, a new 7200 RPM drive beats a 5yo 5400 RPM drive on consumption probably. Best way to find out is to Google both models, but I don't think it'll be an issue anyway
