Physics update to the PhysX system, nice changes if you have capable hardware.
(AGEIA PPU or a proper NVIDIA CUDA GPU as that'll give better performance, albeit only if you have something like a 9800 / GT 250 or above as PhysX will but a bit of a strain on a already demanding game so your GPU needs to be powerful enough to handle both.)

EDIT: Article for general physX but it also has video showing water gun and such stuff.

EDIT: For savegame compatibility just enable the console and use it with the "map" command to resume progress if you would prefer not to start over.

EDIT:

my system has it's moments of slight slow down in this game, v suprising.
I tried it in my other rig wich has a 8800 gts 640 oc and 3ghz c2d and it couldn't cope atall with setting cranked up.
real strange from a game that looks a little dated.

This is a real good game though, i usualy avoid anything that has a 1c logo.

As of the latest update the game is unprotected. Smile
(Similar to the 1.01 update for the Russian version.)

A quick question, if I'm using the Reloaded version, which patch should I get? European or US?

Thanks in advance! Smile

I'm pretty sure it's the European version as from what I've understood the US version is pre-patched albeit not to this latest version. Smile

I gave up on this game when it first was released in english, too boring imo and you need the manual to actually realize wtf is going on, else the story didn't make any sense

it's no more and no less boring than any other survival horror out there.
and the story does start to make sense if you keep playing. you'll be able to put together all the info you get along the way to form a (pretty cool, actually) story. it's miles better than the last silent hill, for example. i know that doesn't say much, i compared them only because these are pretty much the only recent games of this genre that i can think of.

well cod is fps as a first person shooter

this should have something like fpss - first person shooting-sometimes, just like Condemned, u will be lucky enough if u find some ammo for your prehistoric weapon

hmm, i read about not having enough ammo before playing the game, so i ended up using the axe together with quicksave/load for a good part of the game. i ended up having my ammo maxed most of the time and finishing the game with tons left. i may have played on easy, though..

haha, yeah, fpa would be a good description Laughing i got better at the axing part so i stuck with it Very Happy

attack (while pressing forward, it's the quickest iirc), retreat while the enemy retaliates, repeat as much as needed and bam! ammo saved!

What is this game comparable to? Bioshock?

Is the level design any good (doesnt seem to be much variation?). I can't stand games like Fear with crate filled rooms and boring corridors. I also hated Condemned, which i think someone compared this game to.

It was marketed as the Russian BioShock, but they have very little in common besides water surrounding the game world lol. It's more comparable to Condemned and other survival games. Smile

Well, I think you should give it a shot still. It doesn't involve zombies (per se), so you might like it. It's a small game (3.5GB), so nothing to lose by trying. Wink I think the atmosphere is done amazingly well.

it's not like bioshock. bioshock was a more of a classic shooter, you had tons of weapons, lots of ammo, lots of monsters to kill, it had mazey levels, etc.
this is slower, you have only a bunch of long range weapons and 3 melee weapons, there aren't that many monsters and the levels are linear.

like natan said, it's more like condemned, but better, imo. if you expect much visual variation, you'll prolly be disappointed, it all takes place on a frozen ship, so the environments are either outdoors, in the snow, or in corridors and metallic icy rooms. there are also flashbacks from the past where the ship looks different and some underwater sections.

yeah, it's very atmospheric and the story kept me playing. also i got quite a few jumps out of stuff like opening a door and having only enough time see an axe raising above me, but not enough to avoid it Very Happy

Hmm, I might give it a shot then (if its better than Condemnded which i didnt care much for, though i didnt give it much time tbh). I did like "The Thing"-game, loved the setting there so maybe it'll work for this game too.

So, the first time I played this game, I had to deal with the Russian story, rendering me completelly unable to understand anything of the story.
I played it to the end, and now I've gathered the courage to play the English version of the game... but... whenever I start the game, I am greeted by a black screen.

I have an ATI 4890 that is more or less brand new.
I tried re-installing DirectX but that didn't do much good, so does anyone have any ideas?

Of course I've updated the gameversion to the latest.

Also running on Windows 7.

What the are you doing with such old redists, as of the update to the English version (Linked to above.) it uses a far more recent PhysX version, uninstall that old thing and grab the latest version from NVIDIA's website instead. Smile

Game originally had issues under DX10 with ATI hardware but the patch solved this along with updated Catalyst drivers, game still uses a lot of physics effects so it needs a strong CPU even with PhysX disabled. (It doesn't look as good since it was designed around those extras but it's mostly visuals and ambience though some stuff like the water gun introduced in the patch looks horrible without hardware physics acceleration.)

Finished the game a short while ago myself, pretty good but also quite a strange game. Very Happy
(Been busy with other titles mainly, still am to a degree.)

EDIT: Grab the latest DirectX redist while you're at it as well. Smile
