Apparently their blood flows just as a human's does - thus why humans can feed from them as well. Though that's kind of negated by the fact that they're cold. Hmm...somewhat a logical dilemma...

Imo, It's not. There is an existing lore for vampires that people relate to when watching them in new stuff. Albeit that question here is in the peripheral of what is generally thought to when thinking of vampire lore, however it would be perfectly acceptable to question and/or criticise the way vampires are depicted in for instance Twilight, where suddenly they can walk around in sunlight and oh just look like diamonds(an obvious change to get tweens wet).

When the change is recieved as lame/not good it makes the show/movie worse. Atleast to the viewer.

I don't think he was thinking logically just wondering about the change. If there is any, he was just asking, dude Smile

I used to be a storyteller for the White-Wolf p'n'p Vampire; The Masquerade for well over ten years. If one of my players asked me why vampires were cold, I would simply say that they are supernatural, their bodies do not need the same body temperature a mortal does, and the blood does not need to contain oxygen. A human's body organs need the warm temperature to work optimally, whereas a vampires does not.

What generates heat in a human body is chemical reactions, some from the muscles (which require oxygen) while the digestive systems (etc.) also generate heat. The vampire does no longer have a working digestive system, nor does it use the atrophied muscles of it's host body in the same way a human body does - which means it no longer generates the same heat (and is perceived as cold by a human).

@dom

How do you even watch TV or play games guy? lol Over analyzing shit will ruin anything Wink

Just a TV show. And every Vampire story (movie, tv show, book, game etc) has their own twist on the lore. Thats what makes it interesting.

Personally, the only one that makes sense to me is 30 Days of Night....not the movie per say, but given the fact they are supernatural but still physical beings with a brain of some sort, the only way to kill them is to decapitate them.

Silver, garlic, crosses and even the steak in the heart never really made sense to me.
Like fuck, supernatural beings are afraid of a spice, metal and an image of a fairy tale (yes I know they are pretend as well but still, you see my point)....only thing that makes sense is decapitation.

EDIT

Oh and sunlight as that has been a constant...well, before this trend of 'Day Walkers'....did that shit start with the Blade movies? Cuz I shutter to think that Wesley Snipes added a twist to the Nosferatu legend....that would suck balls.

I don't see it as overanalyzing, really. I just like it when things are put together with some solid background, and not just taken out of thin air. There are limits to my ability to suspend disbelief, and these limits usually become apparent when it's just too obvious that no one cared about applying any kind of logic to a certain scene (for instance). If there is thought behind something, like for instance the concept of vampires, if there are laws they too abide by then that adds to the realism of my experience. For example if a vampire could do everything, walk in daylight, look at someone and they died, turn water into gold, well ANYTHING at all, that would lose my interest in that series immediately. It just becomes ridiculous and, well... for lack of a better word: cheezy.

However when there are clear boundries and logic that vampires are bound to, everything becomes more real (in an unreal world). Details like a vampire having an erection for example wouldn't really bother me as they are way too minute to bother about in a series such as True Blood. But when you tell a story yourself, you make sure that there is some background to the vampire, so that the explanation isn't the simple (depth lacking) "it's just magic, man".

For me, a director that is able to show that there are thoughts put down into some of the details, is a director who knows his craft.

I totally agree bud Smile

I'm a big fan of Vampires as well as logic (as it applies to whatever I am watching). I can only stretch it so far (unless what I'm watching isn't meant to be serious ie Eureka).

I was just breaking your nuts man, tbh Smile

haha , what your panties got all tangled up cause i'm bitchin about the series ??

like dom said , you can't just buy anything you see , even to fantasy there must be a limit , sparkly vampires and crap like that are just plain moronic , it's nice to see a twist on the vampire genre now and then , but keep it serious .
i always loved a well defiened mythlogy , that not neccesarily explain everything but that's truly fascinating and creates interest rather than accepting that things are a certain way cause 'it's a movie' .

30 days of night was nice , they skipped over the whole eroticism of vampires , kept their mysticism and showed them as a savage 'species' , as ugly creatures that should really be feared . but i guess eroticsm was in the vampire genre from the very begging from Nosferatu to Dracula , Interview with a Vampire is a nice example , imo they really presented vampires in a nice way , with the good and the bad parts , included all the eroticism and mystery to make them fascinating .
Another vampire movie i recently saw was Near Dark , wasnt bad , it's the kind of vampire story that Twilight should have had as a role model .

but back to True Blood , my main gripe is that there's way to much sex , sure , it has the mystery and shit but its just plain stupid , like those parts were written for horny teenager who cumm at every tit they see.. I mean shit , Alan Ball wrote the damn thing , Nothing Is Private was good , American Beauty .. was .. awesome is little said , and Six Feet Under was good , so i'm kinda dissapointed that he took a shitty commerical approach on something that he could have done greatly.
the way i see it , he's selling more sex than the story itself..

Well, I have to say...I like the sex and nudity Smile

I hate network shows that basically are similar (say another vampire show) but they cut the language, blood and sex. Sex is part of life, human or vampire I suppose. So the occasionally 10 seconds of very softcore sex (tits and ass) is fine by me.
And Ana is a hottie in True Blood.

that is the sad part tho. Its in to many things.

Its one thing if its on HBO or a chan similar. But on ABC,NBC,CBS (big 3 US networks) where they push the line for network primetime tv...it pisses me off. Unless you going to use the language and nudity and sexually provocative images to the fullest extent...don't bother with innuendo and such.

Two and a Half Men is the exception to this tho. Funny fucking show Laughing I love Sheen in that show. Smile

Yeah it's good show! Very Happy

But regarding the whole sex thing, as long as it'll bring money to them they don't care. It's sad tho that some series tends to go bad because it got focused on one thing that (only in the first place) attracted viewers...

I just hope the same won't happen with True Blood

Probably some Greek incantation.

Maybe she is a cross between an Aphrodite like witch and a minotaur....?

For sure she is a minotaur and based on her sexual prowess...

Or maybe the horned god Pan? But Pan is male....

I really wanna know what or who she is lol

The first book is dead until dark, the second is Living Dead in Dallas, but its all a part of Southern Vampire Mystery if I am not wrong.
@Syco: She's maenad (at least in the book), some sort of greek creature...

well that explains it, from my mind maenads were female worshippers of Dionysus, the god of hedonism and everything else thats fun... and they supposedly devoured flesh of humans.
