In the 80ies electronic scene there was a trend in music to create tracks that had a sense of "future" or "future tech", and this always appealed to me in the 80ies and to some extent in the 90ies.
Some of the earlier stuff I listened to back then was some of the early works of Jan Hammer
(most famous for creating the mood/atmosphere soundtracks to Miami Vice) - many artists were doing a similar thing, including the russian (I think it was) group Pink Project:
. But in the C64-scene there was a lot of SID-artists that made songs that had this "future sense" of it, tons of demo-artists made it, but then there also was Chris Huelsbeck
In the 90ies this type of music became popular in the amiga demoscene, often referring back to the works of Jean-Michel-Jarre and Vangelis (particularly the Blade Runner-soundtrack) - one of the artists I most appreciated on the Amiga was Uncle Tom
What I feel is a part of this type of music is a love for technology and the possibilities it gives, the obstacles, challenges and the drive to overcome them - there's also a sense of action and adventure, and a genuine sense of freedom and exploration. Some more recent examples of it is Lazerhawk
and in some game soundtracks, like Deus Ex: Human Revolution
as well as the artist Perturbator
Do you also have fond memories of this? I certainly feel that this genre reverberates through a lot of my appreciation for technology, listening to similar tracks at small scale LAN-parties during the late 80ies early 90ies and experiencing the thrill of discovering "future" technology together with friends (both through games, coding and creating stuff on and with your computer).
This is my thread,
there are many threads, but this one is mine.
My thread is my best friend. It is in the least used section of the forum. I must master it as I must master my life.
My thread, without me, is useless. Without my thread, you are useless. I must flame other posters true. I must flame straighter than other posters who are trying to kill me. I must flame them before they flame me. I will...
Great thread
*pours Australian Ketchup as a sign of appreciation*
I've always liked this genre, I find it highly evocative, and it never gets old really =). I'm glad that the trend is living a second youth these days, with several new artists replicating the familiar electronic synth inspired by 80's atmosphere.
That Lazerhawk album was in my youtube suggestions since days, but I never bothered with it. Must be a sign that it shows up here too
Anyway, I like it.
Imagine playing DUNE CD version with Voice acting , Movie clips from the movie, 3D remade desert and with this OST ... the best experience of all versions out there
