Apparently, there is a remake of Z in the making at Kavcom, called Z: The Game. It is coming to the PC among other platforms. Now the first screenshots have been posted (see the page linked above), and it's looking really retro. And in times where strategy games turn FPS it's good to see a company staying true to the classic (at least from the first look iof it).
I hope it's going to be as awesome as the original.
Why bother playing a watered down game made for iphone or ipad when you can play the original or a fanmade update made specifically for the pc with the original in mind?
Video of that here
working ai, multiplayer, different resolutions, the works.
I've heard of Zod but never tried it. Up to now there is not enough info so it might be as you say or it might actually be quite a faithful remake on the PC. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Yeah, like all Bitmap Brothers games (love'em) it was quite hard, and although the AI was really advanced compared to other games of the time, your units sometimes did wonky things like not going around a mountain but bombing their way right through it, wasting those precious grenades .
They did the Chaos Engine games too or?
I had a great time back then on the Amiga playing it in coop with my cousin or father
I miss the old school days

Absolutely. Chaos Engine was great, escpecially in co-op mode .
Some missions of Z were very difficult. At least for me (I was a teen back then). But I kept trying and finished it eventually. Those were good times with challenging games.
Z was my first very original game on PC... paid 125.000 milalire (our old coin here in italy before the €, it should be around 80-95€ of now with inflation of that time) and i was like ten when i bought it; i saved money from my birthday and christmas to buy it!
so much memories... too bad the sequel was garbage.
I won this game from a PC mag in a competition I didn't actually remember entering.
Great game, I just replayed it on my android tablet and I know it was mentioned above but I don't believe it was a watered down version. As far as I recall it was exactly the same as the PC version.
Thanks, game was awesome back then. But i sadly don't think i can play it today. Best to keep the nice memories instead
It's still quite playable.

The Bitmap Brothers' light-hearted robot-themed real-time strategy game Z launches on Steam this week.
Z comes out on 5th July, courtesy of publishers Kiss Ltd and Kavcom. It includes the comedy cut-scenes and old-school RTS gameplay of the 1996 original.
"We've built it from scratch for today's PC's, but have kept all of The Bitmap Brothers' unique style, humour and attitude," said Kavcom boss Tony Kavanagh.
The developer behind Z on Steam is TickTock Games, which also worked on an updated version of The Bitmap Brothers' Z follow-up Z Steel Soldiers. That's due out on Steam on the 27th July 2014.
the game is still awsome, just takes a bit of time to get used to the weird mouse controls
you select with the right mouse button and give orders with the left
