Used to ride one, an old Ducati Monster Foggy which was a damn great (albeit rough) beast
The increasingly perilous state of our roads and mental habits of people driving here though eventually made me lose interest, then two friends dying in the span of three years did the rest. I only own a car these days and the mountain bike (that I use once a year :')).
Used to ride, my first mode of transport when I was 16 was a Kawasaki AR50.
Had trial bikes and a Honda crosser. Gave up riding when I was 17 when I passed my car driving test.
Had an early midlife crisis at 30 and passed my bike test and bought a 600cc pocket rocket.
Absolutely loved riding again, nothing compares to the excitement and freedom of riding a motorbike.
My excitement was cut short when riding through the countryside and an unexpected encounter with a sheep while travelling at 90 mph. The furry fucker dived out from a ditch and committed suicide by running directly in my path. I had enough time to register the white blur as a sheep and then bang, a quick flight through the air and unconsciousness quickly followed. Luckily I was fully protected and no other vehicles were involved as I came to a stop on the grass verge.
I woke up as if i had just taken a afternoon nap reality came back, sat up and luckily I was still in one piece, sadly the sheep had been practically split in half, and was my bike was further down the roars nose down in a ditch.
Sooo my bike was written off and I had escaped death once again. I say again because when you ride a bike there are always incidents that could lead to a fatal crash. So the sensible thing to do? Yes buy a bigger bike actually I bought a Dragstar 1100 to cruise around for a few months then bought a GSXR 750.
Now I believe it’s not if your going to crash it’s when your going to crash. And I sold my bikes when I met my wife to eliminate the when (again).I don’t know many bikers who haven’t had an accident but I do know many who have and at least 3 who lost their lives. And it’s not always about speed, I lost my closet friend in a bike accident. The police confirmed via cctv that he was travelling less than 30mph.
The woman who was parked up waving goodbye to her family, pulled out and made an immediate u turn as my friend approached and had his life taken from him.
Bikes are awesome and I enjoyed them immensely. But you are at greater risk especially from the other idiots on the road.. and kamikaze sheep
P.S typed on my phone so it’s probably messy sorry!
na nope sorry, every 2-3 months the road to work is blocked because of an accident (and unlucky me has to drive a huge detour in that case). last time monday, this time without other casulties (ok the dude is dead, his girlfriend only had a scratch on the knee (literally, saw her yesterday.no i didnt know either of them,a coworker told me.but alteast he didnt hit any other upcoming car. on a straight he came off the street on the right side [where atleast is about another meter space after the road marking before the grass begins], tried to steer in the other direction and directly aimed for the embankment and a tree on the left side of the road...) but mostly there are huge crashes cause those fuckers dont know anything about the right of way. have to break heavily atleast every two weeks to not crash into some idiot. im not willing to do this with a bike and without 2 tons of steel around me
long story short: im not stupid. nowadays every idiot gets a driving license, you can see daily what happens. i kinda even avoid some roads here cause i know people drive like idiots there, even with radar stations installed finally. just let darwin do his work and try to stay out of the way (fun fact: the german minister of dunno traffic blabla said they want to allow everyone over 25y old with a car driving license to drive a bike without the need of taking a real driving test (just a few hours with a driving school needed, and not even necessarily on open roads...). well i think the society is in desperate need of organ donors
Broke both my legs on the X7, and still have the scars to this day. I do miss it though, but it was more a 'youth' thing back then, and a chick puller, and that it did, lol
Engine and gear were great, it's everything around them that sucked ass. Fuel pump died on me (twice), many many electrical issues, all the plastic was super low quality, build quality was awful.
And that was across two different MaxSym 600 models, so t'wasn't just one bad apple.
I got my license when I was 27, made a few bad judgement calls in the first couple of years(Thankfully nothing bone breaking). But with time comes experience if you can control your right hand.
