Rogue Rocket Games announced First Wonder, their spiritual successor to critic and fan-favorites MDK and Giants: Citizen Kabuto. A first playable demo of First Wonder will be available at PAX Prime at the end of August, with a crowdfunding campaign to support a multi-platform version of First Wonder planned later this year.
As the press release reads, Rogue Rocket Games co-founder Nick Bruty created and led art design for the then-revolutionary 1997 third-person shooter MDK while working for Shiny Entertainment. Several years later, at Planet Moon Studios, Bruty led the design and oversaw the release of Giants: Citizen Kabuto. Both MDK and Giants: Citizen Kabuto met with tremendous critical acclaim and fan enthusiasm for their gorgeous aesthetics and uniquely challenging, genre-bending gameplay.

First Wonder blends third-person shooter elements with aerial acrobatics in a fantastical open-ended world ripe for exploration. First Wonder is a humor-laden, genre-defying game packed with memorable characters who must face a deadly giant while trapped on an island resort on the alien planet, Majorca. When a greedy corporation tricks the planet’s peaceful inhabitants, the Majorcans, to give up their land to found a luxury resort, they accidentally awaken the slumbering giant Monstro. Tasked with fulfilling an ancient prophecy, destruction follows in Monstro’s wake as he takes steps to accomplish his destiny-driven goal.
Monstro has formidable abilities that allow him to leap over obstacles, charge at opponents and exploit the natural formations of the expansive Majorcan Islands for quick traversal. The Cargonauts – a underprepared salvage team, way out of their league when Monstro awakens – take to the skies using their rocket technology in an attempt at matching Monstro’s natural gifts. To find and capture the terrifying beast, the Cargonaunts must use their wits and a variety of tools and inventive traps.
In First Wonder, players will alternatively take the reigns of Monstro and the ragtag team of Cargonauts as they try to stop him. The living, breathing chain of Majorcan Islands – a “character” in its own right – offers a dynamic world with unique inhabitants and natural resources awaiting player interaction. Many secrets lay hidden within First Wonder, as tiered plateaus, surreal geological features, and surprising environmental effects create a rich and unpredictable alien world.

Nick Bruty, Co-Founder of Rogue Rocket Games, said:
“MDK and Giants have held a special place in my heart for many years and I’ve wanted to revisit those ideas for a long time. I always intended for one or more sequels, to more deeply develop many of the ideas that we had only barely introduced. With the modern existence of high-quality game development tools like Unity3D and Unreal, combined with the creative freedom that comes from crowdfunding, our plans for First Wonder can finally be realized. Stay tuned for more information as we approach the launch of our crowdfunding campaign!”
Rogue Rocket Games Co-Founder Richard Sun added:
“No one really makes games like Giants and MDK anymore. With help from our fans and support from those that loved MDK and Giants: Citizen Kabuto, we think it’s about time to change that!”

Rogue Rocket Games will crowdfund a multi-platform version of First Wonder later this year, with details announced soon.
they finally announced this properly??? I am watching this for almost a year ( seems like i forgot to make a topic for it), there should be some crowdfunding later on ...
It wasn't him! . Bruty left Shiny in ~1997 (to develop Giants along with many Wii games after that ). And Armed and Dangerous too which wasn't too bad xD
I actually barely touched Giants, but I always knew it as a really special game. The MDK games though... I absolutely love them! I have no idea how this will turn out, but I'm in!
great new's, even if it will have 40% of what Citizen Kabuto's has, it will be wonderful, it was funny and i think that it was another game that came early to it's time.
Greetings all, we are thrilled to announce that we will be launching First Wonder's Kickstarter on September 25th in conjunction with our attendance at TwitchCon in San Francisco, CA! The Kickstarter is going to be live at 11 a.m. PDT/ 2 p.m. EDT, and we will be streaming the event from TwitchCon on our Rogue Rocket Games Twitch.tv channel (which we will link here on Friday).
We will be showing off an updated First Wonder demo where TwitchCon attendees can play as Monstro or the Cargonauts. We will be showing off that "first look" demo at Rogue Rocket Games booth #9 in the Indie Game Garage - Main Expo Hall. However, we will also be streaming that demo and Nick Bruty will be on-hand for live commentary, interviews, signatures and gameplay sessions.
Soar across the skies as the Cargonauts and storm across the islands as the giant, Monstro in this sci-fi 3rd person action-adventure!
In a nutshell, First Wonder is...
A spiritual successor to Co-Founder Nick Bruty’s previous games MDK & Giants: Citizen Kabuto.
Explore and Discover fantastic environments in a 3rd person action adventure
Soar over the islands as the scrappy jetpack-toting Cargonauts, utilizing all kinds of crazy sci-fi gear that gives them their abilities.
Crush your puny enemies beneath your feet as the huge and agile creature, Monstro.
Story based campaign that reveals the mystery of Monstro’s prophecy while playing as both Monstro & Cargonaut, with hilarious cutscenes reminiscent of the ones in Giants.
Asymmetric Multiplayer with players able to play as either the Cargonauts or Monstro in goal-based matches.
Currently planned for release in late 2016 on PC on Steam and DRM-free on GoG or The Humble Store, with PS4 & Xbox One as stretch goals (other platforms may come up later).
Will be made with and for gamers like you! We want you involved!
The potential is definitely there. I don't know though if they'll make it, 500k is a high number considering that the game/genre were (and still are) rather niche.
First of all, we’re committed to continuing to work on First Wonder, finding a way to build it up over time to hit our aspirations for what we wanted to accomplish .
This probably means getting it done in a different way than we intended: perhaps creating a small multiplayer version of the game first and delivering that as an Early Access game*. Maybe sign with an interested publisher; or possibly even return to Kickstarter or another crowdfunding platform with a different strategy. But the important thing is you haven’t heard the last of First Wonder, you can be sure of that!
Signature/Avatar nuking: none (can be changed in your profile)
