So yeah apparently they'll have the 4790k this friday or next monday the latest. I need a mobo to go with it and i figured i'd go with the asrock z97 extreme 4.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z97%20Extreme4/

vs

http://www.msi.com/product/mb/Z97_GAMING_5.html

Thing is i never had asrock mobos, only gigabyte and msi. How's the brand? I've seen some reviews which apparently say this one is pretty good (compared to say msi z97 gaming 5) but i'd like some user opinions too. Difference in price is almost non-existant so there's that.

Thanks.

Also i noticed this :

PCI Express 3.0 x16 3 (x16 / x8 / x4)

i've never sli'd before and i don't think i will, however just in case won't the 8x slow the 2nd gpu down?

Uhm i have no idea what m.2 is Sad

I basically have a SSD samsung 840 evo with an old HDD if that's what it's referring to. Nothing else really.

Heck i don't even know what UEFI is.

Edited OP with a link to the mobo on their site with all the specs.

You must have an old computer then if you don't know what a UEFI is, its a replacement for the BIOS and it can do a lot more things like load up drivers and initialize a graphical environment where you can use your mouse

If you are not interested in any special features then IMO you should go for whichever is cheapest

Well old.. i didnt upgrade my mobo + cpu since my i5 2400 / some gb mobo. I had a 4770k + z87 for about a month and had uefi bios but i didn't actually bother checking what it means. I did notice the mouse working tho Razz

I really don't care about mobos that much as long as they make the other stuff work.

Only reason i'm asking about these is because i've noticed a slight difference in FPS between most mobos that get tested. Also wondering if there's any stability issues or whatever but i guess that's not the case. Also the components quality in case you want to oc (people talking about VRMS etc)

Ok, guess for now i'll stay with the ASrock in my order til the cpu gets in stock. Got a few more days to reconsider if anyone else wants to chime in with some counterarguments.

Thanks shosho.

Get the MSI mobo, Asrock mobos have been absolutely dog shit lately (only the high end Asrock ones are decent).

Can you go a bit more in detail about this? I'm trying to find issues with it in reviews/user opinions and can't really find anything.

oh man, name of those motherboards Laughing

"gaming ultra extremezzz"

I've found out that motherboards don't have effect on framerate AT ALL. It just needs to support basic overclocking functions and sata3.
I perfectly fine with asrock p67 pro3 100$ board. I can oc my 2500k to 4.5 and live happily

Msi z97 gaming 5 is same price as asrock z97 extreme4 (150e).

So your comment makes no sense about cheaping out.

They're both the recommended boards by tomshardware etc out of all the tests. Above Gigabyte and ASUS.

I'd get the MSI, looks better, and the audio/network part of it are pretty much the best. Although I wouldn't expect great results for overclocking in the long run, at that price, surely there are some cutbacks where vrm's and what's required for OC-ing a CPU are a BIT lackluster.

Also, where are they bringing the 4790k? It seems like the only chip that is worth mentioning, dat 4.0GHz.

Yeah i decided on the msi gaming 5. Wanted to get them both from same store but won't be possible (that's why i was leaning towards the asrock)

CPU will be at pcgarage tomorrow (you can preorder it today for 4% discount) + they got limited amounts inc. 1380 Lei

Getting the mobo from evomag. 620 Lei.

All good.

Huh. Thinking of getting one too, but I JUST upgraded the mobo from a low entry z87 board and ima wait and see the new Nvidia series. That's a great price for the CPU, considering the improvements, and the same price.
