Since I graduated I work via a temp agency somewhere, a good deal below my capabilities but I don't mind. Since 2.5 months now I'm forced to work 32 hours, it was 40 hours before that. Pay was OK and the people were great, so I thought it was fine. I added 4 hours a week from my vacation hours to get 36 hours. Work's been dying down this last month however, so I looked for a new job. My manager, with whom I have a great relationship, showed me a mail from the temp agency telling him they're hiring new people (I got a raise a while back). Apparently, he wasn't supposed to show me (he said fuck it and did it anyway).
I got a call today from somehwre else, I can start in a week (I have to work a week here first before I can leave). So I go to the temp agency (inhouse), tell the woman I'm leaving. She goes . "Why would you go, isn't it good here?" I tell her it's great here, but me going below 32 hours is just too much. Then she tells me it's super busy (?), there's a shitload to do (?) and that she can easily give me 40 hours work (???). So I ask her why I'm sitting at home for a day then. She goes "The fuck!? We have enough work!!!" I stand there with a Are You Serious face. I almost asked "you're the one planning me in bitch. How the fuck can you not know?". I didn't though. So she tells me to think about it in teh weekend (no promises about full work weeks though).
Apparently while I was going back she called my manager (I walked in while he was talking). She told him what the hell he was thinking letting me go. My manager is a great guy, but a very strange one. He actually told her to go fuck herself Laughing Asked her why I wasn't working 40 hours if there's that much work (which there isn't). So a lot of blabla.

I'm now Confused My manager told me to go, since the temp agency can hardly promise me 40 hours while the workload is this low. I just hope the new place has such great managers.

It's another temp agency, no luck with finding a proper job yet (the one I want that is) Sad This new place told me they can use me for six months atleast 40+ hours though, so I'm going no matter what the idiots here tell me. I'll really miss the great people here, but money is money.

We should call them what they are. Leaches & Slave traders. I am sorry that you couldn't find anything in your own profession and hope that you'll find something rather soon and that those fucks at the temps go broke.

Yeah the agencies suck, but I had luck with the manager. I've worked a few days/weeks on other departments before I got there, the managers there were OKish. A manager usually can't ask specifically for someone, but mine could (because he can get away with a lot for some reason). The first three months I did 55-60 hours, earning between 1800-1900 a month.
It'll hurt leaving, even though I don't actually care about the work. The people in my department were simply awesome, but money rules. For a job I started with shitty expectations, everything went better than expected Everything Went Better Than Expected

Yeah temp agencies are crap. How many times they called me they had a job for me while I was doing a job for them...

Or other agencies, never heard a peep from them for 2 years and then they suddenly call: We have a job for you! Eventho you've been working more than a year on permanent basis somewhere and then they have the audacity to bitch that you are still in their system

Mister_s .Ok it was pretty weird. I think your manager should have talked to the boss that you want full time job. Looks like miscommunication to me.
What i would do is tell my current boss ok i wont leave if you give a significant raise Laughing

The firm has a contract with the temp agency, the firm itself doesn't really have much control. As I said, my manager shouldn't even be able to ask for me specifically. The problem is the severely reduced workload, which results in less hours. The shitty thing with this temp agency is that actually doing your job doesn't mean shit, they just divide hours over the temps without regard. So whether you work well or not, you get an average hour which complies to other temps (to keep everyone satisfied). Parallel to this, the morons keep hiring more people (more temps in firm, more money for the temp agency). The new hirelings are all 18-19 year olds since theyr'e extremely cheap. Who'd work for 3.75 an hour ffs?
So basically my needs and wants don't mean anything to them. I got a completely different view of the temp agency I'll be working for in a week. They seem to look for people who'll do a great job, instead of young people because they're cheap.
